Hi,

I was happy to be notified of having a case complete on August 9th.  However, today I received an e-mail from NVC requesting that my husband bring my 2016 tax returns (were already submitted to NVC) and corresponding W-2s to the interview.  Even though the tax returns were submitted I can have him take a copy of them but I do not have any W-2s because the income was not in the USA, nor does the country give us anything similar.  I have looked at a couple past threads on this topic and have gotten some ideas but none that I saw actually confirmed success with the strategies.  Has anyone been in this situation and been successful with bringing tax transcripts and/or a detailed letter from the employer with the pay for the year?  If so, does the employer letter just need the overall amount for the year or the breakdown with each payday?  I think I can get either or both of these.  Also just a note: I know my income will not qualify to sponsor my husband so we have a joint sponsor who is covering that.  Thanks very much.

Also critical will be the evidence this income will continue from the same source, once you're back in the USA.  If it won't, you can't use it to qualify as sponsor.

Thank you @Dee elle and @pushbrk for the feedback.  I will work on the tax transcripts. This income has not continued with my move back to the USA last month but we have a joint sponsor who will cover that.  I have a new job here in the USA and I included that new salary letter but it has only just started so we made sure to get a joint sponsor.  I guess they just want documentation for me anyways as the sponsor/petitioner.  Hoping this doesn't complicate things but I know I am not the first in this situation.

Hopefully, your new job should carry the day and they'll allow the joint sponsor to be withdrawn.  To help assure that, prepare and sign an updated I-864 that states your current income as your current pay going forward 12 months and document it with a pay stub.

If you stated current income based on a job you no longer have, that was wrong, and needs to be corrected with a new affidavit anyway.

Thank you for the information.  I guess it all depends on when his interview is whether I will start receiving the new income or not.  I am a teacher and the income won't start until the end of September.  However NVC has letters from my former employer in which she stated that that job was ending at the end of May, as well as a contract from my new employer for the job starting soon.

The key to qualifying as the sponsor is to properly state and document current income.  Once school starts, you can state your current income as documented in the contract, even if you haven't been paid yet.
