Hello everyone,

My Conditional Green Card is due to expire by the end of this month. I have received the 1 year extension letter (the I-797 Notice of Action) and my bio-metrics are already done.

The NOA letter states that I am eligible to travel  and I am planning to take a trip to India in October for 2 weeks. Most likely, I will take Air India or Emirates.

Will I face any problem with my expired GC and extension letter upon return?

I read that many people have traveled without any problems but I would like to know if any of these airlines gives any trouble.

Some people have said on Internet that some people gives hard time in understanding NOA letter because there is no expiry date written. It just states that your GC is extended for 1 year.

I may be highly confused but that is why I am posting it here.

Any experience, tips, suggestions  in regards to trip to India with these is highly appreciated.

Thank you!

No, just make sure to bring the original letter. When we traveled, we brought a copy and were asked why. We said the original was too important to risk carrying abroad and had it at home in our safe. I would bring the original, just to be safe and of course, your expired green card.

What will happen, is you have to be manually entered so not the typical fingerprint/picture machine that lets you in. You'll first go there and be told to go to a line where you'll manually be entered. It was pretty easy and straight forward.

Here is a link to the official document which states you can board with an expired GC and extension letter.  Page 38 specifically addresses the issue.
