Why not keep your Life Assurance? Critical Illness, well that varies a lot so best not to comment.

Wouldn't the life Insurance, since its from a Foreign Country, be payable in that specific currency. Which could be a major difference and not as valuable

Or more valuable.

Critical Illness like I say depends, but do not know why it would be an issue for Life Assurance, what did they say?

Critical illness is not a medical cover - i think its defined differently in the US.  Its like a life insurance, so if we got any illlness on the list we would get a payout regardless of actual cost of treatment.

i will delve further and post updates here for others.  I am not sure if life insurance has to be linked to income etc... you see i will not be working in the US, but still need the life insurance to cover for my kids..

I know what Critical Illness is but never got involved in it at a practical level. So do not feel comfortable being specific.

Income is only relevant to the extent you can pay the premiums, or are you looking to insure the children?
