Hello everyone and thank you for letting me be part of this wonderful forum. I have been coming to this forum for quite sometime as an intruder reading some great advice from all of you so, I said "why not create an account" and here I am.

Now, the reason for this posting is that I need your help: I am about to become a US citizen in a few days and right after my oath ceremony I am planning to petition for my wife whose B1/B2 visa expired. I'd like to add that the forms have already been filled out and they are pretty much ready to be mailed. However, I need help assembling the package in the correct way so as to not encounter any issues or delays along the way. Your help is certainly appreciated!!!

you can search for sample cover letters, for example, here. However, do make sure you use the newest forms, found on uscis.gov and verify the filing fees (which have changed from Sep 2016). The filing instructions also contain the necessary supporting documents. In your case, you'd for example also have to include your naturalization certificate.

Coco8, thank you so much! I just skimmed through the information and it is just what I needed! Now, how up-to date is this info? I see form G325a and, if I am not mistaken, that is a form that has been discontinued and replaced by I130a (I130 supplement). Again, thank you very much!

DrEllaNJ, thank you also! I have read the instructions very thoroughly and you are absolutely correct, the fees have changed and they do also have a section where they list supporting documents. I raised a question in my mind while reading the instructions and it seems that the evidence for form I130 and I485 are very similar. For example: for I130 I need to attach my marriage certificate and for I485 as well... I guess I would have to attach two copies one for I130 and the other for I485. Thank you so much for the cover letter!

tato2017, thank you very much! You guys are such a great help!! Question: I previously mentioned that my wife came on a B1/B2 visa and we married one year and a few months after her arrival. Would not applying for a fiance visa be an issue during the interview? She came with no intentions of marrying, we decided to get married after she overstayed. Once again, thank you all for your great responses and help.

"She came with no intentions of marrying, we decided to get married after she overstayed"

That is the key here. They may question why you did not go route of applying fiance visa  etc but most likely wont change the outcome since she was inspected and admitted to US.

that's a great list! I added the word "fee" under i-765. You definitely should file, but you don't need to pay the filing fee.

Good luck!

Hi Archie, I'm almost in the same situation as you. I became a citizen and I'm filing for my spouse who overstayed his visitor visa. We filed I-130, I-485, I-765 and I-131. We already received the biometrics appointment.

I honestly don't remember if I filed G325a with I-130. I might have and I also included the I-130a. I think the guide needs to be updated because I just recently filed with this outdated information.

Hello all, I  wanted to give you a very exciting update: as of 8/15/17 I am a new US citizen!! I am very excited and proud to be part of this great nation and even though I was not part of this forum throughout the citizenship process , I couldn't have done it without coming here as an outsider to get information.

As you all know, my wife's journey to permanent residency is just beginning, we are getting ready to file all the necessary forms and supporting documents. I want to thank each and everyone of your who has responded to my initial and follow-up questions. I am looking forward to receiving much more feedback from  you, and of course, help and be a guide when needed. I will keep you up-to-date of my wife's case. Thank you again!

Hello, did you file the I-130 with the I-485 or separately. How long did the process take?
