I neither like nor hate Trump, but his veiled threat to start a nuclear war is not something to be celebrated or cheered. He is no different than Kim, in his meaningless bravado.

You guys don't have to agree (not like I had any expectations that you will) but I think with someone like Kim you have to show him you mean business. And lo and behold, he made a threat and then decided it was too much a risk to follow up on. I guess that being one of the very few things I approve of from Trump in the last 6 months makes me a Trump supporter to some of you black and white folks out there, but I don't care. Gotta give credit where credits due. I'll get him the next time he talks about the market or tries to get a laughable healthcare bill passed.

The bolded part is the biggest part of the equation, Trump had little or nothing to do with Kim's decision to back down.

Suppose NK had launched a missile or four towards Guam, and as promised, they had landed in the surrounding waters.

 

Based on Trump's words, what do you think America's reaction should have been? I realize doing nothing was not an option, but Trump all but said he would launch a nuclear attack against NK. He spoke of "fire and fury" and "event the likes of which nobody's ever seen before, what will happen in North Korea." 

 

How do you walk back from that, and how to you keep such a promise without realizing that actually following through with the threat would certainly mean that Tokyo and Seoul would each have a NK nuke headed their way, the moment we initiated a response.
