K-1? Why goto NVC?

I was thinking about the purpose of he K1 visa going to NVC, and then to embassy .

 

after approval from USCIS, the application is sent to NVC . What exactly does NVC do,besides issuing new number?

 

it seems like majority of apps going thru NVC are only there a few days before going to embassies..

 

Do they do any checks on application?

USCIS checks documents to see all are in order and submiited / they may ask for more to establish a bona fide relationship

when it goes to NVC that office is responsible to check the financial information to make sure income is within the limits needed

they also issue visa number for country / this is why sometimes you wait longer than others / limited number of visas issued each year for eas ach country 

NVC has a bigger processing in the cases of CR1 and IR1 as they also check criminal investaigion reports 

also checking done here for other unwanted activity the USC may be unaware of

in case a visa is denied and returned to US, NVC now cancels the visa number originally assigned to the case

i didn't know a visa number was actually issued untill this was explained to be by my Senator 

 

and a few days?   some are held a year in NVC 

i know one case that was there 13 months as they kept loosing documents

I certainly won't claim to know exactly what is done at NVC behind the scenes, but a K-1 is a non-immigrant visa handled by the immigrant visa unit at the embassies. As such, it has to go through the same processes and some of the preparation as other immigrant visas. Each embassy has their own process/requirements for this, and NVC handles that piece. They're basically a funnel between USCIS and the embassies' immigrant visa units.

 

Also, some I-129Fs have an incorrect (or no) embassy listed, and NVC assigns one (presumably the closest to the beneficiary's residence, but that's just a guess).

Not for a K-1. K-1 uses the I-134, which is only presented at the interview.

Does not apply to a K-1. There is no immigrant visa and therefore no limit on how many are issued each year.

True, but also not applicable here for a K-1.

Nope...no additional security/background checks for a K-1 that I know of.

For K1's they assign the number and forward it to the right embassy - period.

Which also doesn't apply to K1's but only immigrant visas.

You're going for a CR-1/IR-1, which is an immigrant visa. K-1 is non-immigrant.

 

Edit: Wait...you went for a K-1? Your timeline and profile is inaccurate or outdated then. Either way, there's 0 reason to send NVC anything for a K-1.

All that happens with K-1s at the NVC is that they are logged on to a massive central database and issued a visa number. It's done at the NVC to ensure that two (or more) embassies don't issue the same visa number. Because every application gives through the NVC they can make sure only one database is issuing the numbers.

Our K1 was held up there for the best part of 8 weeks. "Subject to extra scrutiny in AP". I was told at the interview it was random. So probably more than just assign the case a number.

They don't do any additional processing of K1 cases at the NVC but ALL cases are subject to random AP at any point in the process wherever it may be.
