why does my state ID says "not for federal purposes"?

hello friends, finally I got my state Id from where I live Wisconsin,, while my AOS is pending..  went with my husband... dealing with the officer was not easy he was just saying she cant have blah blah ... the good thing we have printed out from their website that its allowed to have state ID with NOA and I-94 record.. we showed him that... he didnt want to admit that he didnt know the rules..lol he said she cant have using this,  this is for extension....my husband said what extension??? he couldnt answer that haha he just said i dont think you are allowed but you can try..... and we got a number,  took a picture and waited for my turn to be called.. to make a long story short,,, i have already my ID now... and I have a plan to travel to visit my sister in another state.. Maryland.. and my question is... my Id on the right upper corner it says not for federal purposes... what does it mean.. i cant travel using that??? please help.. thanks

Not yet, but it will not be valid for the TSA starting January (2020 for WI since it is fully compliant already).

Timeline

It will be valid for domestic travel until October, 2020. WI is a REAL ID Act compliant state, so the January 2018 date doesn't apply to WI license holders (regardless of the "not for federal purposes" notation).
