How are you handling the stress

Hi there,

this is the very point most of us coming to this forum. So we can find answers for some of the questions, have a look how other people are doing, get some support. But the main thing, I think, is we are just trying to handle the stress of adjusting to this new world in this new country.

I am in the same boat. My partner is American and we thought that there are more opportunities for both of us at this stage in life here. So the journey began last year and still goes on. First, it's the initial interview and visa wait, then it's adjustment of status and work permit wait. Now for me it's a job search. And during the specifics of my field, I actually need to wait for residency to satisfy US Person requirements. Every step has a bit of the stress involved. Double checking in all the forms are filled correctly. Waking up in the middle of the night thinking if everything is fine or should I panic about my application. Oh, and why is the job search going so slow? :) Plus all the changes in the politics. The list goes on...

So I wonder, how do you cope with stress? And what do you think about that period of adjustment time in a new country?

I had this similar experience when back in the day I moved to New Zealand. But now it's just like all over again. One day I am super excited and the next day, after checking the status on the USCIS website, I feel down and can barely function :-)  And then a good day again. I will be very grateful if someone would like to share their experience with the mental state of mind and how you handle stress! :)

That's a good question. I'm a very impatient person by nature. And I have had always this attitude of: things don't come to you by themselves, you have to take action. This has always worked out for me in anything I've done. As long as I'm in control I know I will get the job done.  Untill now...now is this loooooooooong waiting game and even when I take an action to set things in motion I have to wait. Wait for others to make a decision, wait for documents to be processed.

Some days I'm doing well and some days I don't. I try to do the things that give me satisfaction, stuff like working out, reading and writing.

It's a long and sometimes frustrating journey. I have a very supportive partner and we do a lot of outdoor activities to relax, but he obviously has to work while I stay home. And I think that's the most frustrating part. I miss being part of a team, driving to work with a mug of coffee. Exchanging stories with co workers. Producing something useful and being creative.

But yeah, I feel ya :-)

Hi Beachlover, when the government institutions are involved, it seems that we do need to surrender a certain level of proactiveness :)

I never had that long of the period of my life without work.

What do you write?

Me neither, I've always been working. Even as F-1 student but then I moved and things changed.

I write about tribes and their traditions in Morocco. It's nothing professional or something, just an interest of mine.

Also, what seems to work is meditation. Not with me though cause my mind starts working overtime the moment I tune out external distractions.

Absolutely. If the sitting one doesn't work for you, there's always a walking one :) Just going for a walk is doing the trick. I am blessed here with the very beautiful mountain views.

What kind of tribes are there in Morocco?
