'Dodgy' greenhouse gas data threatens Paris accord

Potent, climate-warming gases are being emitted into the atmosphere but are not being recorded in official inventories, a BBC investigation has found.

Air monitors in Switzerland have detected large quantities of one gas coming from a location in Italy.

However, the Italian submission to the UN records just a tiny amount of the substance being emitted.

Levels of some emissions from India and China are so uncertain that experts say their records are plus or minus 100%.

These flaws posed a bigger threat to the Paris climate agreement than US President Donald Trump's intention to withdraw, researchers told BBC Radio 4's Counting Carbon programme.

This has always been the case of certain countries saying this or that but in reality it much worse than originally reported. So I am glad we are withdrawing from a sham agreement that nobody will honor.

The lack of accuracy of climate models only highlights the lack of grasp upon climate humans have. For good reason, as someone who's taken post-secondary physics that aspect alone of climate shows it's incredibly complicated and I'm skeptical if humans will ever have anything resembling a comprehensive grasp upon climate and the umbrella of sciences that covers it, not before humans wreck their own habitat or destroy their own population (due to sheer population growth or nuclear winter).

 

But then you have all this stupid political propaganda flooding the science discussion such as the subjectively modified criteria of what constitutes this overwhelming majority of climatologists (climatologist + currently writing in science journals + specific science journals + taking a specific position on global warming and ignoring all the ones that don't), to make it seem like there's no dissent, and thus no debate or differing opinions. A complete farce which anyone with an ounce of common sense can see through. Hence all the Day After Tomorrow analogies every time bad storms or weather arrives, every drought, etc., combined with cries of "debate over". No debate, I just want my way! 

 

I guess environmentalists haven't learned from their prior failures, and clearly have no problem taking down anything they associate themselves with either. RIP science.

This is exactly why the uproar over Trump pulling the US out of the Paris Accord is such a joke.  This whole agreement is just a big left wing political activity full of climate scientists singing kumbaya.  The fact that there is no enforcement mechanisms for the numbers countries sign up for other than shame, and even that is questionable as when a country is called out such as Italy, they will just respond that any data showing them violating their reduction agreement is erroneous and it will just lead to bickering.  Other countries will just ignore any shame altogether.  Trump did us a favor getting us out of this farce.

To be fair I think a lot of it is a different attitude to such things.

 

The French for example will happily sign up for anything that makes them look good but will not actually follow through if they consider it against their interests.

 

Hence a lot of the friction in the EU.
