No. You must obtain an EAD first. You can do so after getting married and filing for AOS. ETA: 3-4 months (closer to 4 months currently).

 

Filing for an EAD only on the K-1 (prior to AOS) would be pointless as it expires at the end of your original 90 days of legal stay and still takes 90-120 days to obtain.

So I have apply for a EAD after the marriage? How long does it take to be approved?

After you marry, you will need to file for AOS to get a green card and obtain authorized stay in the US (the K-1 only grants 90 days of legal stay). When you do so, you can also include the I-765 and I-131 (+ supporting documentation) for an EAD and AP.

AP lets you travel abroad for short trips and return to the US...it's optional but recommended. There's no fee for either form when filed with an I-485.

 

It will take about 3-4 months from filing the AOS + EAD + AP forms to receive the EAD and/or AP. It's currently leaning closer to 4 months from what I'm seeing.

So it's nothing I can do for work right now before getting married?

Correct. The inability to work for several months is one of the most significant drawbacks of a K-1 (fiance) versus a CR-1 (spousal) visa.

Unfortunately, yes you cannot work unless you are legally allowed to do so.

That's either an EAD or a GC.
