Especially when you're not well off, it's common back home to borrow money to prepare that feast/celebration. It's really a big deal for Filipinos because we take pride of our love for food.

Ohhh I know all to well trust me. They probably did borrow money for it and he just totally said screw you basically to the father.

The least he could do is pretend to enjoy it. It's roasted pig. If he was a vegeterian, I would understand.

Common sense - make a good impression as a guest when your host is hospitable. In my eyes it has nowt to do with culture:

Pig roast is super delicious so unless he doesn’t like pork which I doubt then just poor behavior on his part.

He works at McDonald's, how grossed out can he get at seeing a roasted pig?  Seriously! :P:P

I've said it before, it's not rocket science to know that people get offended when they offer you food and you refuse it (or worse look like you are about to regurgitate it--great comment somebody made earlier.). Even in the US, but to a lesser extent, it's a bit rude to refuse food/drink when you are a guest.  In Latin culture, it's a big deal too.  My wife's family is very poor too and they usually prepared some kind of meal when I would visit.  It killed me but I ate most of it.  I would never refuse it completely.

Hopefully, he'll learn from this. He invested his 401k into this relationship, well better research the culture you're marrying into. Ignorance is no excuse. Jenny isn't a saint at all, saying that she wants to marry him so she can come have a better life in the US. Marry for love, not for opportunity. It's not all roses over here and money does not grow out of a tree, contrary to popular belief.

Cortney wants a real relationship but Antonio just wanted some booty, and once got to it, he went to his "mom's" house to spend the night.  Yeeahhhh riiiight.  He even had his friend/wingman tell her that he's usually quickly in bed with all women, but he's taking it slow with her because she's sooooo important to him.  That's a good wing.

What's up with her complaining about the broken air conditioning way too much?  When he came back, she was upset at him for leaving, but it seemed like not having A/C upset her more.  "You don't leave somebody alone like that and WITHOUT A/C!!!"  Spoiled American.

Jenny wants a green card and she has the fish on a hook, and she's not letting go.  She'll cry and moan to make him her witch.  He'll feel so bad that he'll do whatever she says.  She'll use it to control him, in the same way that Jesse is using Darcey's one night of drinking.  LOL

Karine also wants out of Brazil, to improve her life, and her family's so there was no doubt that she would take him back.

Jesse made sure to repeat, in no uncertain terms, that it's not an engagement ring.  That was PRICELESS!  The look on her face after the second time he said it (I think she was in shock and didn't comprehend the first one) was classic.  Like when his stepfather told Jesse that Darcey was out of his league.

Sean is a complete loser with no self-esteem nor self-respect and he's gonna let her see Chris (and every other client in DR), but as long as she promises (is this kindergarten????) and he'll still sponsor her.  His family back home must be wearing paper bags as hats with the eye holes cut out from the embarrassment he's causing them.  Even his dog is embarrassed.

It seems that this show really looks for no self-esteem Americans, and very desperate foreigners.  I think the combination equals better drama/ratings.

I think that was pretty rude of him just to up and leave her there.  For a couple hours no biggie, but 24 hours to go hang out with mom and do laundry knowing she felt uncomfortable in the heat was rude and not very hospitable.  I would not do that to any guest that stayed with me.  I'm not spoiled, I just treat my guests well and want them to be comfortable since they are my guests.

My wife talked about this alot because having a Lechon at a party or homecoming is kinda par for the course for anything party related, and when she said she hadn't had one in a couple of years it took me back. I say it took me back because it shows how in that area how poor it is because that pig they showed probably cost them $1-200 which could be a month's pay for them out in the provinces, and for him not to eat it is very disrespectful to the family. He may be the first guy that has taken the time out to come see her from the USA. So yeah she will probably stick with him at least a year after marriage, because what she would make in the USA would help her family tremendously unless she gets a job with him at McDonalds.  Ohhh btw she has dentures which look really bad according to my wife.

This is the same if i refused a meal made for me in the DR at my mother in law's house. I guess Larry is clueless in that respect.

Jenny has dentures? Really? lol I knew her smile looked a bit off, but never thought that.

Same thing here the first couple of times I went to the Philippines as well. The first time I went I swear my future MIL was trying to feed me whole plates of food almost every 1-2 hours, then she was wondering why I wasn't eating all the food she offered. My now wife had to curtail her on that so I wouldn't get all fat. Also in the Philippines they like to serve like cubes of pork but about 2/3 of it's fat, so I would have to cut away most of the fat to eat the actual meat. My wife had to explain to them that I like to eat alittle fat but not all of it, she would then eat up the fat I cut away from the meat.

Yeah Jenny has dentures supposedly according to my wife, and very cheap ones too. I kept asking my wife how she knew and she said that "us, Filipinos know that kind of stuff". Because preventive dental care is really expensive for poor families in the Philippines so it's alot cheaper to just pull the teeth and do dentures later.

If her family is so poor i'd be surprised they could afford dentures, but they did mention the mother working in another country

Well I don't know if she lives and works in her home province or if she lives in Manila(the capitol) and helps send money home. A family member working overseas is very common in the Philippines, but my guess is she doesn't get paid alot either working in that country(wherever it is).

She probably saved up for dentures or one of her former bf's sent her money for them.

Some dental schools have outreach programs in the province so they can give out free dentures. Back home, it's actually cheaper to just get dentures than spend money maintaining your real teeth. There's no such thing as going to the dentist at least once a year to get your teeth cleaned.

That was crazy to me when I first heard it from my wife but it's true. The first ever preventive care dental appointment my wife ever had was here in the US.

I know in Morocco you can get dentures for $25 - $50.  Here minimum cost is $500.00 I think.

But... they definitely aren't quality!  My pappa is always complaining about his hurting his gums.
