not if the home owner's are using the air bnb platform, as they agree to these terms as well. they could drop out of airbnb service and rent to these pigs all day long.

I'm not a legal expert.

That being said, I don't think it is right for a corporation/commercial entity (Airbnb) to have a terms of service that explicitly say that people who don't "fit their mold" can't use their service. That is discrimination. THe irony is their TOS are meant to keep people who discriminate out of their product but in their effort to do so they become the discrimanators. Now of course who they are discriminating against are horrible people, and as a private citizen I would gladly feel the same way as them. I just don't think they can get away with that as a business.

What I meant was while I don't think Airbnb should get away with what they are doing, I would encourage all home owners in that area who rent on airbnb to do their best to screen people requesting to use their space and decline anyone who intends to rally. That I am fine with. That is a private citizen declining to rent their space to a specific person. Sure they would be discriminating as well, but I believe they have that right on their private property. They can't be forced to rent to anyone.

that sort of diminished my enjoyment of this breitbart subforum.

My apologies, I thought I was posting in the Venezuela subforum, they look so much alike.

private citizens who use airbnb to rent out their homes can't withdraw from airbnb to screen people, that's why airbnb has these standards. i don't think it's discrimination anyway, when dealing with white supremacists - people who ultimately believe in thinning the ethnic herd to bring white people back to their rightful place as overlords - it's an issue of public safety.

When you get a request to rent your place, aren't you given the name and profile of the person requesting to rent it?

I just mean if I were renting my space I would take that name and profile and look that person up. If they look like a party animal, or a white supremacist, then I will "decline".

I would always set it so I have to approve every renter.

i don't really know how airbnb works, and i certainly don't own any real estate. but there has to be some sort of protection for people/towns when it comes to groups like this unwantedly descending upon a town to stir up trouble strictly to strengthen the appearance of their base. charlottesville is almost 20% black, i'm sure they find this an issue of public safety.

I've only rented from airbnb, I've never been a host.

From what I can tell though the hosts can set it up so that a renter is automatically approved (you can filter for that when you are searching for a place) or if you need to approve them first. The host then has a certain amount of time to "approve" the request to stay.

When you are creating your profile it encourages you to include a photo, bio etc and in the early days when I made my account it even said "The more you put in the more likely the host will approve you" or something like that.

My whole point has just been that while I agree that these people are horrible human beings, I don't think it is in the hands of the Airbnb corporation to discriminate and refuse them. I realize it is in their TOS but I don't think those TOS will fly in court if challenged (again based on my horrible lack of legal expertise).

I DO think those people should be refused, but I think it needs to be on the level of the individual home owners deciding who they want to host.

I think Airbnb has to act like a hotel. A hotel unfortunately can't kick these people out before they stay. A private home owner can however.

in reading the comments, it looks like airbnb initially looked into the bookings because they were planning rallies/parties at the rentals, which isn't allowed. i just really appreciate white supremacist butt hurt over being "discriminated" against. most would agree, they deserve the discrimination.

Also, political preference is not a protected class when it comes to provision of lodging, and Airbnb has the right to restrict provision of lodging to persons belonging to classes that are not specified in state or federal legislation.

Airbnb has partnered with the NAACP to bring economic opportunities to people of color. Through the partnership, which includes a revenue-sharing agreement, Airbnb and the NAACP will reach out to communities of color about the benefits of sharing their homes on Airbnb.

“For too long, black people and other communities of color have faced barriers to access new technology and innovations,” NAACP interim President and CEO Derrick Johnson said in a statement. “This groundbreaking partnership with Airbnb will help bring new jobs and economic opportunities to our communities. Airbnb’s commitment to that goal is a tremendous step in the
right direction for Silicon Valley to open its doors to African-Americans and other communities.”

The NAACP and Airbnb will work together to host in-person community meetings and educational campaigns around issues of fair and affordable housing. The goal is to bring more travelers to communities of color.

As part of the deal, Airbnb will share 20 percent of those earnings with the NAACP. Hosts will not be impacted by the initiative, and Airbnb says it will provide more details in the coming weeks.
