According to screenshots shared on Twitter, the users have apparently been banned for violating Airbnb’s Terms of Service.

Over the weekend, chatter within far-right spheres alluded to a possible crackdown against those traveling to Virginia to hear white nationalist Richard Spencer, Buzzfeed washout turned fundamentalist Baked Alaska, Augustus Invictus, a one-time Senate hopeful and author of such LinkedIn screeds as Future or Ruin: The Argument for Eugenics and others preach hate in front of a statue of a Confederate general.

it's just so unfair that these folks can't be treated just like everyone else. plenty of camping spots around here, good ol boys can rough it :dead:

But if the shoe was on the other foot you guys would be crying and yelling about discrimination. How the company needs to be sued for discrimination. This is open discrimination right here and I would be surprised if a law suit does not come out of it.

Airbnb is just a means for private home owners to rent out rooms or entire places. I'm pretty sure they are allowed to decline anyone they want on their private property. It would obviously be different it we were talking about commercial properties (hotel brands) refusing.

Though it may still result in a law suit just to settle the issue. May not be precedent for a case like this. In the end though I imagine the home owners are well within their rights.

How would air bnb know why they are going to that city for? Unless they are openly looking at peoples profile information on other sites which it would be discriminatory.

It is unlikely to be airbnb themselves doing it. Airbnb is just the foil.

It would be the home owner getting a request from someone. They then have that person's name (at least), sometimes a picture depending on how much you have put in your airbnb account.

The home owner has every right to look up the person and cancel if they want. It is their home. If they find a facebook profile covered in drunken trashed parties, they have every right to cancel the stay because they don't want to risk damage.

My wife struggled getting an airbnb in Amsterdam for New Years Eve 3 years ago. We sent requests to 5 or 6 places and none of them would confirm. I think in our case it was just because our airbnb account was brand new and home owners are especially wary on New Years Eve. In the end it is up to the home owner to decide.

I know what air bnb is trust me, my coworker uses it to rent out a unused room in his house. But I am sure someone can make the case for it being discriminatory or at least try to.

it's funny, how often i've read about rioters coming in from other areas and starting trouble in areas affected by certain crimes and how this is wrong. why is ok for white supremacists to flock to a miniscule town in charlottesville that decided (on their own) to change the name of a park?

Apologies actually. This is one of the few times I didn't actually read the article. Oops!

I see it is actually the airbnb organization doing it. That is different. I agree someone likely can (and should) argue it is discriminatory. I don't think airbnb can police it. I think it would have to be up to the individual home owners who decide to rent out their space or not.

it's in air bnb's tos. that's why they're cancelling their air bnb accounts and not suing.

In 2016 we established the Airbnb Community Commitment reflecting our belief that to make good on our mission of belonging, those who are members of the Airbnb community accept people regardless of their race, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, or age. We asked all members of the Airbnb to affirmatively sign on to this commitment. When through our background check processes or from input of our community we identify and determine that there are those who would be pursuing behavior on the platform that would be antithetical to the Airbnb Community Commitment, we seek to take appropriate action including, as in this case, removing them from the platform.

I'm sure they are pigs, deplorable human beings, scum of the earth.

Unfortunately it is still discrimination to flatly ban them from the entire platform. Yes it is part of the 'terms of service', but someone will ultimately challenge those terms of service.

The individual home owners have the right to choose who they rent to. I don't think airbnb can control it.

not if the home owner's are using the air bnb platform, as they agree to these terms as well. they could drop out of airbnb service and rent to these pigs all day long.

Gotta love a company that adheres to a straight forward TOS.

that sort of diminished my enjoyment of this breitbart subforum.
