My K-1 packet from London didn't come like this, but judging by people's comments here it seems that some embassies do this. Strange...

The person at the consulate that she has spoken to was probably stressed out and understood something like the envelope has been opened and the seal being broken.

I called the Juarez Consulate and was told that the envelopes should be completely sealed and have no cuts whatsoever. I decided to call my airport's Border Patrol directly. The Officer I spoke to assured me that the corner cut is completely normal and that my fiance should have no problems as long as she does not open the envelope. 

 

My fiance decided to make one last call to the Consulate mentioning what the Border Patrol officer had just told us. The operator simply said that we would have to send it in or it would be considered fraud. She also told us not call again as our multiple calls regarding the same subject are 'suspicious'. I'm done with the Consulate.

 

I've decided to send back our envelope and have them reseal it or whatever - I'm not taking any chances.

 

For those of you that have the same question in the future, ignore what the Consulate tells you, don't fill the DHL return label and just call the US Customs and Border patrol where your fiance will be entering. It will save you the stress, threats, and blatant lack of communication that the USCBP and the Consulates have.

Well if that is a new SPECIAL way the consulate in Juarez is handling this due to recent fraud then MAYBE. But let us know if the envelope comes back with a corner cut again.

Take a deep breath.  This is normal.  My wife's was cut when we received it.  Don't take it back to the embassy...this is perfectly normal.  Good luck, God Bles

It is actually normal and happens to most of us. In case the package would be inspected by someone they can easily see it only contains documents and therefore doesn't need to be opened. So it's actually a smart thing they do.

Some embassies do this. USEM is one of them...there's many cases of it reported on VJ and other sites. I don't know about Juarez's visa packets specifically, though. It's not an issue for POE.

Sounds like an overzealous operator who doesn't want to admit their wrong.  And to get you off the line threw out the "fraud" card.  SMH    No way I would ever send back my packet after that exchange.  Things just got WAY more complicated for you.  Good luck!   You will need it...... 

 

In any case good to know cutting the corner is standard procedure for many embassies.

I used to have a picture from their manual where it instrcts the to do this, it even had a diagram of what size the cut should be and what corner that cut is SUPPOSED to be on.  Yes, it's normal and is supposed to be there.

Actually just found it...........

 

"You must make the cut by starting 3" from the bottom of the envelope and continuing on an angle of approximately 50 degrees to a point 2 inches from the left side of the envelope."

My package looked worse than that when I entered the US, no one ever said anything. The little hole that the embassy had made (or whoever made it) in the corner had opened up further during the shipping between the embassy and my house. But it went fine, it wasn't big enough so someone could put something in it or take something out of it. No way I would send back a package looking like in the picture here.

Just like everyone is saying it is normal.  My husband's was like that and he had no problem either.  I would not send it back but that is your decision.

It is normal and I've heard many people on here mention it; BTW, my wife's was the same way.
