Principles do matter, I agree. On principal though, it's never a great idea to mess with the people who are serving you food or drink. You have way more to lose than they do.

If it was me, I'd go to a different coffee shop. Way better options for coffee than Starbucks, and spending your dollars elsewhere is the most principled way of all to let a vendor know you don't like their policies.

I agree 100%. I went to the Subway at wally world while the wife was shopping. ( I hate walmart but that is  another story) I stand at the counter about 4 mins , while some guy in the back is leaning on the counter.  He finally walks to the counter and just looks at me. No greeting, no hi, no nothing. So we star at each other about 1 min. (it's on at this point) He finally mumbles under his breath, waz up. I reply waz up?  Then after about 30 more seconds of silence, he asks  so, you needs sumthing or what?   I told him not today and not from you, and walked off.

Like you said, I took my biz elsewhere

I'd have asked if he's done emptying the register and could find me an employee to serve some food.

I don't go to Subway either for similar reasons. It's been about 20 years since I've been to one. There's other places too, once I walk out of a place for bad service, I likely won't be back.

I think you have to pick your battles though. The Starbucks people asking for your name are just doing there job. Every Starbucks does that. Bad service I could get upset about, but trying to troll them with a fake name and they don't play along, I probably wouldn't put that one on the employees.

tbh my orders when I used to go there were so complicated they never needed a name, they just called out all the ####### they wrote on the cup..

Chai creme frappe 2 chai 2 vanilla 2 pumpkin spice whipped cream cinnamon.. duh, thats me. Wife would often get the same thing but with coffee blended (I've always hated coffee).

They could probably go with a number system or something; many people don't want to give their names out for trivial things like coffee. I can also see why they don't want to just yell out double caramel mocha and have 5 angry, half awake people running to fight over hot coffee.

IDK, for me it usually takes more than that to write a place off. With Subway, it was the big ugly cockroach that came crawling onto the counter to watch my sandwich being made. There were a series of straws, including the servers bad attitude, that made me question why I would even go to places like that, but that cockroach was the last straw.

Wife's order: Quad Venti 2 Pump Vanilla non fat Caramel Macchiato. I usually just have a venti peppermint mocha or something on the rare occasion I'll get myself something.

But I never saw a reason or need for a name either. Even before that.

Yeah, no backlash, I actually got yelled at by security when I worked for Google and I created a fake guest pass after Steve Irwin died, it said "Crikey, a Stingray". If I can ever find it I'll upload.
