It's a slippery slope. If the baker is forced to bake the cake for this poor kid, they may also be forced to bake a cake for a gay wedding, and the next thing you know, people will be marrying their pets.

Anecdote: After the elections, there was this trend by some to go into places like Starbucks and when asked for their name say "Trump" so they write that on the cup and call out Trump. My wife is kinda like me - far from a huge fan of Trump, but, considering only 11% in the area where that starbucks is voted for him, decided to see what happens if she joins in on the fun. So one time we were in a starbucks, and when asked for her name she said Trump. The flower child on the other side said "what" and again she said "trump". Once coffee was done we have come to find out the fun was ruined - nothing was written on the cup.

 

I'm a man of principle. Even though I personally didn't like the idea of her doing that, the mere fact that they think they should be allowed to decide which names are good enough to write and which aren't has led me since then to never ever give my name out to them. From now on, every time I'm there and they ask my name I simply say "no name". Seriously. I'd like to see more people do that.

Why not? We have the Anitifa organization claiming that they are being discriminated against by Trump and people like me. So they must make the snow flakes feel protected.

tbh I think the left feel empowered to do what they do because the right have decided to play at their level.

 

For example, take the outrage movement:

 

- Leftist gets outraged

- Involves other lefties, boycott things, throw tantrums

- Company responds, gives lefties what they want

- Right gets outraged..

- Instead of just letting it go, they play the lefts card and get outraged

- Circle of outrage commences

- New standard established of how to deal with things we don't like

 

Its why they feel emboldened to attack people who shout "FHRITP" (even when its a male in front of the camera) and go on this vigilante mission, or call for the attack upon sponsors of Hannity because he says things they don't like. The right made the same dumb mistake on this Kelloggs boycott, validating the idea that other people be the police of the things you personally get offended by.

 

So thats why the left feel emboldened to declare things they support as protected and other things not. However, I don't think the solution is to make pro-Trumpers a protected class. To me this is catering to the very stupidity the left want, and would certainly be far more successful at than anyone else.

To clarify my earlier statement, at the federal level, political affiliation is not a protected class. At the state, special district and territorial level, it is a protected class to a greater or lesser degree in DC, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and Mississippi. However, these protections appear to be more relevant to hiring and firing of employees, and may extend only to state employers in Mississippi. I do not know enough about the law in DC, PR or VI to know if the protections extend to those who want to purchase a Trump cake.

Because simply declaring a class to be protected is insufficient to make it so. It matters not a whit if the declarant is from Antifa, the alt-right or a member of a local swingers' club.
