So as the title says, my fiancé has gotten it into my head that the passport photos need to be dated and have a signature from the place who did it.

That and the photos can't be more than 30 days old. Is there any truth to this? If so I need to retake them.

I called the office but they were pretty vague on what the requirements were for this K1 Visa

Something about us writing in the back in pencil and stapling them to the front of the application?

Is a money order OK to send in for the payment as I haven't had cheques in awhile.

  1. You should label each passport style photo with the full name of the person on the back.
  2. The I-129F instructions state that the passport photos must be taken within 30 days of filing. I'm not personally aware of anybody being denied or getting an RFE for not doing this, but that is the requirement and what I would recommend anybody to do.
  3. Guide: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide
NOTE: Ignore the part about the G-325As...they are no longer needed
  4. I put the photos in a bag and attached the bag to a sheet of paper. I used tape...I don't know what others have done.
  5. Money order is fine. https://www.uscis.gov/forms/paying-uscis-fees

Signature is so totally not required :jest: Just your name will do, seriously. I did what @geowrian did, bag them and then stick the ziploc to a paper. I used double sided tape.

For the I-129F, your photos should be taken within 30 days of filing the petition. Refer Page 11 of the I-129F instructions https://www.uscis.gov/i-129f.

For the K-1 visa stage at the embassy, the photos should not be older than 6 months. Refer to US state department photo requirements instructions https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/general/photos.html.

So yes, you have 2 different requirements for 2 different stages :)

****

ETA: Names can be written with a pencil or felt tipped pen. Money order drawn from a US based institution is fine. We personally used USPS money order. Btw, you can use someone else's check too but make sure to write a line in the note or memo section saying something like "I-129F filing fee for [person's name]".

Aside from that, include a G-1145 to your petition so that you'll be notified via text message and e-mail on the receipt of your petition.

Consider signing up for USPS Informed Delivery. This is a great feature because you will get a daily scan of your letter sized mails for the day before they even get to your inbox. With that, you will easily find out if you are getting a USCIS mail.

All the best!! Make sure to check and re-check every form and document submitted. Dot your i and cross your t. Check the boxes you need to check. Sign where you need to sign. Don't forget, letters of intent for both parties as well as divorce decrees (if applicable) if you are at the I-129F stage. Criminal records, declare and include supporting documents. Don't lie on any forms :jest:

I had to retake my photos once because of the date.

One photo typically has the date, the other typically does not. At least in the few places I've had photos taken, it's been like that each time.

We sent in the pair of photos WITHOUT the date printed on the back and were just fine.

They do need the names of the persons appearing in the photos printed though, not signed.

The place where it was taken was also not needed.
