Montreal Consulate Entry

This may be a silly question, but thought I'd ask...

I am preparing for my interview at the Montreal Consulate in September.  In the instructions I received, it states that you are not allowed to bring mobile phones in to the consulate.  I am hoping to use my mobile phone for directions as I walk from my hotel to the consulate.  Is it true that things like mobile phones and bottles of water are not permitted inside?

I actually looked into this as well. If you bring anything with you, it will be held by security. You will get it back after you are finished! You can definitely use it for directions.

Lucky for me though, my airbnb is just a 30 min walk down the same street. I probably won't need to bring my phone ;)

You can have them on your person when entering the building, they'll just take it for safe keeping once you go through security and give you a ticket to claim it when you're done. If you have a backpack (I did since I was using transit) there are also lockers at Eaton's Place mall 2 blocks away if you need to store large items. Only costs a dollar for the day. I took my phone since I was using it for google maps, and got it back in one piece. :)
