So my question is - would it be possible to be in a registered partnership with my girlfriend before applying for a K-1 Visa or would that pose any problems? The partnership would be registered in Germany (as I have a dual citizenship USA/ Germany) .

Thanks in advance for any answers

Might be seen as "married" or well, too married for K1. I wouldn't risk it.

There have been cases here on VJ which were denied K-1 visas because the authorities interpreted arrangements as a "marriage".

careful you do not fall into tge gap of too married for k1 and not married enough for cr1.

I'm guessing that you are referring to sane sex partnership and that would most likely fall into that gap.

Okay thanks a lot to everyone for the answers, we won't be registering our partnership then as it just seems to bring too many problems in the end.

Ah, yes, if it is a same sex partnership then you might wish to avoid doing anything that might make you guys look too married to be a k1, but not enough married to be a CR-1.

Best of luck on your journey!

do not submit pictures of the ceremony. in some of the African countries they have denied people even though they did not do any paperwork but still performed the traditional customs and that was enough to disqualify them.

I'm guessing this isn't ceremony-related. Sounds like just registering the partnership with the government, which is still not recommended if a K-1 is the end goal.
