Question some people who passed interviews in Chicago are having their Oaths at Dirksen United States Courthouse and some at the USCIS Building where the Interview happened. Is this normal?

Hey guys, my interview is on March 14th and had few questions related to that (apologies if they've already been answered before),

- Is Civics test written or oral? Freeform or multiple choice?

- What documents should i bring besides license, passport, greencard, appointment letter? (My application is not marriage-based)

- Do they make you take off your shoes and stuffs when you enter? Need to plan the time accordingly.

- Do they schedule your oath at the same location as interview even though i'm not from Chicago?

- I'm traveling from Champaign so i'm planning to stay the night before in Chicago. Any hotel recommendations near USCIS (budget friendly)? I am thinking of Holiday Inn at W Harrison

Thank you in advance.

Hi!

civics test is oral. They have a sheet of paper and read off and then write down your answer. Mine was right st the beginning of the interview after the swearing in bit.

documents - everything you stated.

yes you go through security. Shoes off etc but it’s quick.

No they don’t schedule same day. I am near you (Sullivan) and I waited almost three months, your interview should be in Urbana but it depends when they have them, they just have them once a year there so if you’ve missed that you get sent to one of the other locations in Midwest Illinois. Mine was in peoria.

I got the Amtrak up and back same day so can’t xomment on the hotel.  😊

good luck!

@kdg Gotcha!

You waited 3 months? 😮 Hope it won't be that long, i've quite a few travels coming up.

Really appreciate the quick response. Thank you so much :)

Reading and writing are on the tablet. I can say we, who live in the city of Chicago, are so lucky. I got my oath date 2 days after they approved my case.

@xilef I applied online on June 10th . Waited almost 8 months, it could be due to my answer on "Have you ever been cited...." , i answered 'Yes' coz of traffic ticket. Seems like most don't answer yes for traffic ticket.

Got an email this morning saying case is still being reviewed, the status has been the same since I completed my biometrics. Not sure what this means. Hopefully it speeds up my 751.

Unfortunately this does not speed up your case. You received this email due to your settings in your account. You'll probably receive it every 2 or so weeks.

You get these every 4 weeks if nothing happens and of course if there is an update you will get one until you change your settings.  Honestly I became a citizen last September and I still get one every month telling me there are no updates because I haven’t changed my notifications!!

My husband had his interview on 2/4 and passed the civics and English test.  Their system was down at the time, so he had to return on 2/12 to have his fingerprints and photo taken.  We have not heard anything since and his online status still reads as "interview scheduled."  I know it has not been that long, however, we are getting nervous as it seems everyone else with interviews around that time had their oath scheduled within days.  Also, we are located in the immediate suburbs.  Has anyone else had their interview around that time and not heard back or had their status update??
