There are multiple things going on at once on the 3rd floor so it is a busy room. It's a large waiting room that you wait to hear your token number. People do bring kids but they are absolutely not necessary and it's probably bothersome for them since they can't go in.

Thank you Steelers and kdg and agryzibianek! Incredibly helpful. I will take passport photos just in case. I will also take all tax documents. My travel itinerary after I had submitted my n-400.

Also, in general , is the crowd lesser in the afternoon? I heard at 8:30 it is generally very busy while around 2:00 it get much reduced. Not sure about that. Also, how accurate are those timing for interview. If they 2:00 can it be a little earlier than that? My wife is going to change her last name and I hope this doesn’t delay the process! I guess we will see! I have less than a week for my interview!!!

I was there in the morning and about 40 minutes before my actual interview time of 11.15. I was taken back for interview about 5 minutes after I arrived and was out of the building before my actual interview time! I guess it just depends on the day.

Good luck!  I’m still waiting on an oath date. South of Chicago has to be a judicial ceremony apparently and takes 90-120 days to be scheduled 😞

Could you have requested that they schedule your oath in Chicago to make it faster?

No.  I asked this. Jurisdiction is with my area (Urbana, which covers central Illinois). I actually have the Senators office working in it for me but they told me that it has to be a judicial ceremony and not an administrative one as dictated by Chicago. A Federal Judge has to perform the ceremony apparently anywhere south of Chicago.   It’s totally ridiculous!

Thanks! This sounds like we should be through quickly. My wife is changing her last name to reflect my family name. Does this mean, our Oath will be delayed?

Also, when will we know the dates of the oath ( meaning how soon and how long  before the actual date. We have travel in August!). Can anyone answer these two questions please?

I finally received notice that they scheduled my ROC interview for 7/30. I applied for I-751 in Dec 2016 and then applied for N-400 in Sept 2017. They scheduled a N-400 interview in Dec 2017, but once we showed up we were told that they don’t do combo interviews in Chicago. Happy to get the ROC process done with so that the citizenship application can move forward!

~Adjusting from F-1 Post-OPT in Chicago, IL~

3/25/14 - Day 00 - I-130, I-485, I-765, & I-131 sent via FedEx

4/22/14 - Day 28 - Biometrics completed @ 10am (Chicago - Broadway location)

6/09/14 - Day 76 - Received EAD/AP combo card in mail.

11/4/14 - Day 224 - Interview in downtown Chicago location

11/5/14 - Day 225 - Notification of GC approval!

It very much depends on where you live. Actually in Chicago usually gets a ceremony within 2-4 weeks. Outside of that... well that have 90-120 days to get it scheduled. So no idea basically.  A name change has to be a judicial ceremony I believe and not and administrative ceremony which may or may not delay things again depending on your location.

hello @AK_2014 , did you ever hear back from them ? Seemingly, this is a trend in the Chicago office as others have even had their N-400 interviews refused to be conducted

Our ROC interview followed the N-400-non-interview pretty quickly, just a little over a month later (sorry @imagineyouandme had to wait so much longer for the ROC interview to be scheduled!!). We never did hear back from Chicago about rescheduling the N-400, and we've now moved to a new district and are waiting out the mandatory 90 days before there's any hope of progressing on this case.

All d-day is nearing. I have collected the following documents:

1] The interview appointment letter and green card

2] Passports- old and new

3] Drivers License

4] Marriage certificate from my country

5] Tax receipts for last five years from IRS.gov website

6] Birth certificate of our children [both US citizens]

7] Travel itinerary for the trip we had after our filing n-400

8]  Two-passport style photos

Do I need to get an employment letter? Is this all enough?  Nerve racking.....Also, can we "REQUEST" oath dates? This is because we are travelling next month and would prefer an oath date if possible in July itself or September. Note: my wife is changing her last name.

Looks like you got everything and more that you need!

I don’t believe you can request dates. You just have to wait for the letter. USCIS are next to useless at helping after the event... but good luck. Hopefully you’ll have a quick turnaround and be one of the lucky ones who gets their oath ceremony in just a week or two.

Good luck! 👍🏻

Thanks kdg! I understand your pain on not getting the oath at the same frequency as those in Chicago. My case is also going to be judicial as it is going to involve name change...Oh... :(

Everything looks good to me, I hope the oath ceremony can be expedited but we will see and I’ll mention it during my interview. I wish you all the best.

that looks like more than enough in my opinion:) ,  when i had my interview all they needed was my green card and my passport. no photos, no tax returns nothing else! Of course, every interviewer is different that's why you are doing a good thing by going prepared. are you bringing just tax receipts or tax returns as well? I'm not sure what the difference is between the two
