Chicago N400 filers

I filed in May 2021, and had my interview yesterday. I still had I751 pending and both interviews were conducted together yesterday. We weren't told in advance that this would happen, I only received an interview notice for the N400 case. I have seen it said several times on here that the Chicago office does not conduct combo N400 and I751 interviews, but if you have a pending I751 then I really recommend bringing your spouse along to the citizenship interview just in case.

The officer gave me a piece of paper saying I passed the test and that "a decision could not be made on the day" or something similar, but she verbally confirmed she is approving both cases and that I will receive an invitation to an oath ceremony once all the paperwork has gone through. She said this should be 6-8 weeks (I asked because I am moving to another state in late May but she said it should be before that).

Has anyone had their oath ceremony in Chicago recently? I am wondering how long the current wait between interview and oath ceremony is.

From timelines posted on here, I think 6 weeks should be a good guess. Im still waiting for my interview so this isnt from experience but rather, seeing what other people are tracking.

I have my N400 interview in Chicago on May 17th and my I-751 is still pending with status of "Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken." My N400 interview notice doesn't say anything about a combo interview. Do you guys think it'll be a combo interview? Also how long after a combo interview do you get the Oath Ceremony day? I'm asking this because I'm planning to travel outside the US on August 2nd. I wonder if I'll get all the processing done and get my citizenship and passport by the time. Any replies are appreciated. Thanks!!

Thanks for the info, and congratulations to your husband! My interview was 3/14 and my case was approved on 4/8 so hoping I hear something about the oath ceremony soon!

My N400 interview in Chicago was a combo interview, and I wasn't told ahead of time that it would be. It's definitely possible that you will get a combo interview too so I would prepare as though it will be. I had my combo interview on 3/14, my N400 application was officially approved on 4/8 and my i751 was approved on 4/11. I think they cannot approve your N400 on the day of your interview if you still have the i751 pending, or if you have a combo interview. I haven't heard about my oath ceremony date yet but hope it will be soon.

One thing to consider is that you can apply for an "urgent travel" passport within 5 business days of your planned travel, and I think you receive it on the same day. So long as your oath ceremony is at least 5 days before your overseas travel, you should be okay. This is what I'm planning to do as well.

Hi there! I have my interview next week and I already had my i751 application approved last year so this is solely a N-400 interview. I am curious if it's beneficial to have a spouse with me and if they even let the spouse in the building given COVID-19 regulations? He could come but has a work meeting he'd have to cancel and I am just curious if that's at all worth it.

I should have interview today in Chicago office. Got a call this morning from them, saying that  it is canceled and the building is closed - water and electricity issues.
Didn’t believe it, so went there to check it. Yes, it is canceled 😕
