Hi

I applied for N400 on Feb 4, 2021 and did the biometrics on Aug 3, and had my interview yesterday (Nov 9), which was approved.

I checked my status online, and it shows  Oath Ceremony Will Be Scheduled (Nov 9, 2021). The officer told me that your ceremony will be scheduled around Dec 5 to Dec 12. Does this sound solid?

Spoiler

My own N400:

  • Feb 4: applied online
  • July 9: notice for biometrics
  • August 3: biometrics done
  • October 1: notice for interview - online
  • November 9: interview, approval recommendation, placed in line for oath ceremony
  • November 22: notice for oath - online
  • December 8: oath ceremony

Hi all,

I passed my interview this morning at the Chicago field office. My interviewing officer was very nice. I brought every document I could think of, but was only asked to provide the lease for an apartment I moved into while my application was pending. Also provided the basics like ID, green card, passport, and interview letter as well as two recent passport quality photos. We started with the civics questions, then reading/writing, and finally the yes or no questions. I had a couple of recent international trips that we updated as well.

Civics Q&A

1. Who is in charge of the executive branch? - President

2. Who vetoes bills? - President

3. Where is the statue of liberty? - New York Harbor

4. What are two rights of everyone living in the United States? - Freedom of speech and the right to bear arms

5. Why did the colonists fight the British? - Because they didn't have self government

Timeline

- March 6, 2021 - Application received

- March 11, 2021 - Biometrics waived

- October 1, 2021 - Interview was scheduled

- November 10, 2021 - Interview

- November 10, 2021 - Oath ceremony will be scheduled

I applied under the 3 year rule.

Congratulations! Yes about 6 weeks from approval date so it might be around the week of December 13th.

Thanks, I did change my last name, and I asked the officer if this is going to delay the process, he said no there won't be any delays. He said your ceremony is likely at 219 S. Dearborn Ave in Chicago. Maybe he says this to everyone lol

Chicago office doesn’t offer administrative ceremonies, which sounds very odd compared to other field offices that are offering same day ceremony.

I think the pause in scheduling was because they were switching from outdoors to indoors. I have the exact same address and room # as Freemanrnd, and I didn’t asked for a name change

Hello G.G

I have a question regarding the oath ceremony. Was the family allowed to be present during the proceedings? If not, are they allowed to visit together for photo oppotunities? Thank you in advance.

I am scheduled for Nov 19 at the same place as yours.

I am scheduled for Nov 19 at the same place as yours.

Family members had to wait on the 2nd floor in the cafeteria, they were not allowed on the 7th floor where the ceremony was. We were also not allowed to take any pictures in the ceremony room

Hi guys,

I filed for citizenship on February 2021. Just recently had my interview on November 10th, 2 days ago. Everything went really well passed the exam the officer was super nice, however i got the "no decision can be made" letter. The officer expressed that oath ceremonies happen within 6 weeks of approval. She told me i got nothing to worry about, she just needed to be get her supervisor signature.

However, my status online still says "interview has been scheduled", its been 2 days and no approval yet :(. Is this normal? I am seeing majority got approval and also status updated right away. Has anybody been in this situation? Appreciate your feedback and responses.

Thank you!

My interviewer was a supervisor and took him five weeks to review my file himself as I have lots of travels frequently… The countdown of six weeks would start once they signed off.

Oh wow. Did your online status still said "interview scheduled" for a long time for 5 weeks? I hope its not that long :(. How soon after approval did you get oath?
