Hi,

Exactly same thing happened to me on June 18th. Everything went smooth and officer was super nice but i got paper with same decision. Unfortunately i still did not get any  update ye,t it is been little over two months.  Could you remember officer name or see on paper that u received? Mine was Martin Mcquillan.

Thanks

No, it was a different officer.
It's really frustrating, isn't it? But I guess it is the luck of the draw and we will get approved when our time comes...

I got an update in my online account last week Friday and was already all happy and thought maybe he did approve it after all. But it was just the status change to 'you attended your interview' and my estimated completion month went up from January 2020 to March 2020... :(

Hey guys, just wanted to share the good news and my interview experience. I passed mine..yay :D .

My appointment was at 11:45 a.m. but i was called around at 12:45 p.m. It was super busy. Interview was quick and simple. IO was really nice and polite. After i was sworn, she asked a little bit about me, did my fingerprint and photo and then straight to civics questions. These were the questions,

- Who wrote Declaration of Independence?

- Rule of law?

- Governor of Illinois?

- How many senators?

- Capital of Illinois?

- Who can vote?

After that, she asked me to read a sentence and write one on an iPad with finger :) . After that, we went through some Yes/No questions from my application and 3 of the questions were blank even though i remember answering them on my online application. I asked her if it was because of the online system and she said it could be as that has happened to many. It wasn't a big deal, she added them and asked me to verify and sign. After that, she gave me the congratulations letter and said my oath will be on March 29th (in 2 weeks). She then asked me to wait in the waiting area for oath ceremony letter. I waited 30 mins and received my letter :D.

Few things for future interviewees:

- You can bring your cell phones but the sign in the waiting area says 'Do not use phones' (everyone was using though).

- If your N400 application is not marriage-based, all you need to bring are: Interview appointment letter, Passport (doesn't matter if expired), Green Card, Driver's license, Proof of Selective Service Registration.

- My IO didn't ask me to show my traffic ticket (which i had mentioned in my application).

Thank you and good luck, all.

Hello,  congrats! May I ask where was your oath ceremony? I lives in Champaign as well and IO told me my oath should be in Peoria. However the earliest one is in November... wondering if it’s possible to attend an earlier one in Chicago

Hi!

civics test is oral. They have a sheet of paper and read off and then write down your answer. Mine was right st the beginning of the interview after the swearing in bit.

documents - everything you stated.

yes you go through security. Shoes off etc but it’s quick.

No they don’t schedule same day. I am near you (Sullivan) and I waited almost three months, your interview should be in Urbana but it depends when they have them, they just have them once a year there so if you’ve missed that you get sent to one of the other locations in Midwest Illinois. Mine was in peoria.

I got the Amtrak up and back same day so can’t xomment on the hotel.  😊

good luck!

Hello, thanks for sharing your experience. I lives in Champaign and the IO told me that my oath should be in Peoria and the earliest one is in November... wondering if it is possible to request to attend an earlier one in Chicago. Do you have any idea if they can send you to an oath in Chicago if your are in middle Illinois? Thanks

And I got lucky today! Even though the officer claimed three months, it wasn't even a full week! I got my approval notice through the online account today. Now waiting for the in line for oath and oath scheduling. :)

May I ask what your online status is currently showing? I got “recommended for approval” right after the interview, but my online status is still “Interview was scheduled”...

A day after the interview it switched to 'you attended your interview' and today, or over night, it switched to 'We approved your application. The final step to becoming a citizen is to attend your naturalization ceremony's.

So yes, I'm waiting for my oath date now.

We were finally re-scheduled for an interview!  they had scheduled us for the ONE vacation we had where we absolutely couldn't cancel so we had to send in the letter asking for a reschedule.  It took 4 months to get re-scheduled!  Anyway....we live in Elgin--does anyone know if he will do the Oath ceremony downtown or is there one closer?   Also, is there somewhere to see the schedule of upcoming ceremonies?  Just trying to get an idea of when his might be.

I have not heard anything about oath ceremonies in the suburbs. I'm in Algonquin (hi neighbor ;) ) and also waiting to take another day off to drive downtown for the oath ceremony ;)

Hello Chicago filers: How long does it take usually to get your Oath Ceremony scheduled, once your online status changed to "Oath Ceremony will be scheduled"? I have an international travel in November and now anxiously waiting for an oath date. Thanks
