hello guys,

I am a paper filer in Chicago (month of November 2017) -  based on current estimates and speed, would someone be so kind and tell me when should I expect my interview and my passport in HAND?    I need to set up a business abroad and this is important for me to know because it determines how I set that up.  Thank you.

Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason behind the wait times with immigration.

Currently what we are seeing at the Chicago office for paper filers is a 8-10 month waiting period for a interview date. From beginning to end can be up to 1 year.

The last time I checked they were working on June 2017 paper filers. Online filers have a different time line.

Its a long process! Good luck.

Thank you -  appreciate your nuanced answer.   How many days from interview date to passport in hand?

After you interview, if everything goes well it can take 2-6 weeks for the oath ceremony. Once you have your naturalization certificate you can apply for your passport, which I've heard is not too bad of a wait, maybe 2-4 weeks.

Me. I applied in mid-July and I had my interview last week.

It sounds about one year from filing to getting your passport. If filed online, you may reduce about two months.

Got it.  So if I am a november paper filer in Chicago and if currently July is being interviewed, I reckon interview in another four-five months, followed by 1-2 months of oath ceremony wait, followed by 1 month of passport services procedure.   So perhaps I should plan on receiving it in 8 months from now.   Let's see if practicality matches the math done here on paper.

My math is the same! I am going by Steelers and expect a letter for interview next month for a June interview ( last week). Then 8 weeks from that for passport!

Well our ceremony came and was great. We must have been at a different one to @silvershadow369 because we had 142 people from 46 countries. The ceremony itself was inspiring with some great speakers. We had travel plans so went straight to the passport office after the ceremony and got our passports same day as the oath ! So I'm done. I'm delighted and I wish you all a speedy end to your journey. Now it's over for us its almost surreal.

Thanks for sharing my journey with me.
