Yes, the Bank of America card I mentioned is like that. They give you a visa. They never have annual fees. Plus, I believe that the first year is 0% interest rate.

They've changed to MasterCard :) - but also it's secured to begin with.

After being rejected by Capital One I was approved for a secured card by Merrick Bank.

Kept it for about a year until my score was high enough to open unsecured cards elsewhere. Ironically, the first unsecured card I got was with Capital One (Quicksilver).

+1. I love my quick silver Capital One card!! I started out at a $300 limit with them (unsecured) and it has gone up steadily every few months. I've been very happy with their customer service and the cash back program.

USAA was very helpful to us. I was able to get an unsecured Cc with a 5 k limit within 2 months of being here.  I think where they deal with the military they are more farmilar with immigration then most banks so they were every easy to talk to.  So if you are not a member, and your spouse or spouses parents are active or discharged military maybe look into it.

USAA is all-around a great organisation to do business with if you qualify (if you're in the military or a close family member of someone that is).

We thought about opening up an account with USAA... Not sure how that'd work though.

My father in law was in the US Air Force, but neither him, nor my wife or myself have any accounts through them. We actually tried to get a car insurance quote through them a few years ago, and it let us, even not being USAA members.

Navy federal is better for loans but usaa is great for general banking.

Call their accounts section to see how you would go about joining.

Whole heartily agree!  We also have our car and house insurance with them and by far they are much cheaper (even in a hurricane zone).  I would agree with NikLR, give them a call and try, we have not been disappointed with their customer service yet!
