EAD Renewal

My EAD is due to expire this November, so I filed for a renewal a couple weeks ago.

I attached a check, as I read on the USCIS website that I still have to pay the fee.

 

My question sparks from the NOA1 that I just received: under payment information, it says 0$. Is it correct? Or is it a mistake?

If it's correct, are they gonna shred my check? I thought I was supposed to pay the 400 something dollars for the renewal.

 

Anyone has any idea what's going on?

If your i485 is still pending, the ead renewal should have its fee waived

Oh ok that makes sense, I didn't understand that while reading the form's instructions.

Any idea what's gonna happen about the check? I can safely assume they're gonna destroy it, right?

I'd say they're going to send that back to you, but I'm not sure. You should give them a call and inquiry

There is no fee for the renewal of an EAD when you have a pending I-485. What you should have done is provided a copy of the I-485's NOA1 instead of payment. But it sounds like they accepted it anyway if they issued a NOA1 for the EAD...normally they would reject it if there was improper payment. I would expect them to return the check as well, though.

See, I did provide them with a copy of my I-485 NOA1, so that's what probably happened. I just called them anyways and they told me they'll send my check back.

Ah, then the check wasn't needed and they should send it back. That explains why it was accepted anyways. Thanks.
