Question regarding IRS Transcripts

So I assembling my AOS package for an IR1 visa, and I want to make sure I am sending the correct tax documents. I obtained the past three years transcripts from the iRS -- they are two page documents, with the first page being a cover letter. Basically the only useful information they have is my adjusted gross income. Are these the correct forms? Or should I obtain the "account transcript" forms that are several pages? Or just send in the full 1040 instead? 

 

One concern is I am employed abroad as a government contractor, so I qualified for "foreign earned income exclusion," and the result is that the adjusted gross income is very, very low on all three transcripts. I am also including W2s and 3 months pay stubs so they can see my true total income, so would I be okay if I send these supplementing documents with my tax transcripts?

The tax transcripts to use say "Tax Return Transcript" centered near the top (above the SSN and below Tracking Number).

 

Yes, you should also provide the pay stubs, and a letter from your employer stating your annual income and employment status (i.e. full time), if possible. No single item is required, but the more evidence you have to show current income, the better.

 

As for providing the tax returns + W-2s (don't send just the W-2s), I'll refer to the I-864's instructions:

"If you provide a photocopy of your Federal individual income tax returns, you must include a copy of each and every Form W-2 and Form 1099 that relates to your returns. Do not include copies of these forms if you provide an IRS transcript of your Federal individual income tax returns rather than a photocopy unless you filed a joint income tax return with your spouse and are qualifying using only your income."

 

Will your income continue from the same source after returning to the US?

Only the most recent year, 2016, did we file as joint-married (I applied for and received an ITIN for my wife). So should I provide the full 1040 + W2 for that year only, and transcripts for the other years?

 

Also, my income will not continue from the same source after returning -- I am employed in an overseas DOD position so once we would prepare to leave, I would be resigning.

Additionally, do I need to send a copy of my social security certificate? I got it from the website but I am unsure if it is necessary, and I couldn't find a conclusive answer searching VJ. I want to say it is unnecessary because I've only been employed for about 5 years so I am nowhere close to being able to collect benefits... but I want to be sure. Would it hurt just to include it anyway?
