Name change during naturalization (San Antonio/Austin, TX)

Hello,

I'm about to sit down and file Form N-400 right now (resident alien since July 2012, DV lottery winner), but just wanted to ask if someone knows anything about the name change process. I've read that if the local field office (I'm from Austin, Texas, so mine is in San Antonio, Texas) does the judicial oath ceremony and not administrative, then it should be fairly simple. How do I find out if the SA office will have the jury during the oath ceremony, since after checking, I see that they do both - administrative and judicial? Is there a way to ask for a judicial ceremony over administrative?

Also, is the name change process complicated during the naturalization? After I put the "new name" in my Form N-400, what other "extra" steps do I need to take which I wouldn't normally have to take should I avoid changing the name? Has anybody here gone through the San Antonio, TX field office for their ceremony?

Thank you.

Hi. I recently took the oath in San Antonio with a name change. The name change was a breeze. You will be asked during the interview if you want to change your name again.  If you say yes, the officer will have you sign a name change request form which will be approved and signed by the Western District court of Texas and given back to you along with you naturalization certificate the day you take the oath. Yes, your oath ceremony will be a judicial one done by a judge. Mine was at the UTSA Institute of Texan cultures. There was a judicial ceremony a week before mine in Austin so you could be lucky enough to have yours in Austin. I drove from Ft Hood to San Antonio. I was hoping to take the one in Austin but it was full.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
