Hi!

My mom is a homemaker back in India. She has recently started her own yoga classes in India and they are doing quite well.

She doesn't have any professional job experience since the last 21 years. Before that, she dealt in stocks in the stock market; but she doesn't feel like doing that anymore.

We should be getting our green cards by the end of the year.

In the long run, my mom wants to establish her own yoga centre. But that will take time.

What jobs do you think she can apply for in the meanwhile to ensure a decent influx of cash?

Should she do some specialised course here in India before arriving at the US to increase her chances of getting a proper job?

There are a lot of small yoga/Pilates/fitness studios all around.  If she wants to eventually establish her own place, then she should look into any requirements for a yoga instruction in the area you plan to live.

Good Luck!

Does she have a college degree from a reputable uni?

There are always jobs available in the service industry. and what do you call an "assured income"

What are her qualification? What is her degree in?

Its been over 22 years that she got her Bachelor of Commerce degree and Diploma in Business Management. Its from a good, not great college in India.

Assured income would basically be maybe a little over minimum wage for starters and somewhere she can grow. Maybe somewhere she can work temporarily to make everyday expenses till she can set up her own business.

Certainly in Colorado a lot of the big box stores and Supermarkets are advertising for staff.

I would advise to manage expectation, it would be extremely difficult for her to get white collar job.

Even for minimum wage job it would be difficult for a recent landed immigrant.

I was talking to somebody who has a business in Denver and they have lots of vacancies for anybody with a reasonable work ethic.

Won't she atleast be able to get a job at Walmart, Sams Club or the like?

She wouldn't prefer working at a fast food chain because we're vegetarians.. so we've never ever touched meat, let alone cook it.

What kind of jobs?

I did not ask what jobs they had available and probably does not matter as it seems you are many thousands of miles from here. I know that Construction is booming here.

I do not eat fish, well except Fish and Chips, but I still have handled it.

some people are vegetarian either because of her/his religion or for ethical reasons, hence they may not want to process inhumanly slaughtered lives.

Then get a job that matches your beliefs.

We were born vegetarians.. Not only does our religion forbid us to touch meat; but we can't bring ourselves to cook and serve animals in a platter either.

Lets hope we can figure something out there :)

thank you so much for your help :)
