Maybe someone can tell you how long it takes to get that letter in order to estimate how much closer to Nov 4 you can get. You would need the extension letter to arrive before you GC expires in order to continue working; are you working?

Actually you don't need the extension letter at all to continue to work. My HR never asked me anything to provide during my entire ROC process but if they did even according to I-9 requirements, I could have just shown them a valid driving license and my social security card to continue to work.

My extension letter came within 10 days I think.

If I were you I'd send it asap. It currently takes 1 year to process ROCs, the later you send, the later you will be adjudicated. I may be wrong but the latest day to file is the day of expiration, postmark date is what counts. I'd say file it 10-15 days before to be on the safer side though.

btw do you guys qualify for a fee waiver? https://www.uscis.gov/i-912

Mmm... that might be your HR. Weird. Mine checks the expiration dates on everything and you start getting this automatic emails that you cannot work past this date and so on.

Actually the combo driving license + SSN does not work because the SSN says "not valid without DHS authorization", do the only ones who are able to present drivers license are US citizens (because SSN does not have the phrase).

However, you are right that she doesn't need the letter, she could get a stamp on her passport doing an infopass.

You can remove the "not valid without DHS authorization" as soon as you get your 2 year GC, you have to go in person to the SS Office. As soon as my husband got his I took him to remove it.

Conditional residents are eligible to get SSN cards without any restrictions, if yours currently show any sort of restriction, stop by at a SSA office to make the change. You could do that change with an unexpired 2 yr green card, or while I-751 is pending with the expired card + extension letter, or a I-551 stamp.

Not sure which state you are in but the NY driver's licenses have "not valid without DHS authorization" on it as well (or a variation of that, I forget the exact wording) and we were able to remove that with the 2 year GC as well.

I used to live in NY before moving to MA, these two are among the lucky states that do not put any "Temp Visitor" sticker, or 2 year expiration date for conditional residents. I still use the DL that I got when I was a CPR. In some states people have to deal with the ignorant DMVs who don't know what the extension letter means, then deal with infopasses to get I-551 stamps, go back to DMV again, so on so forth. 50 states+DC+territories, and that many different practices.

I'm not crazy I swear

Since I literally took him to the DMV the day after he came to the US on the K1 to get his license the card he received had 2 expiration dates on it; a 5 year exp date and a second one that said "expires 1-9-15" (90 days after temp visit). We went to remove it when he got the EAD but they refused to do it until he got the actual GC.

you can choose to send the package anytime between now and maybe a week before 11/4, since USCIS has to receive and acknowledge the receipt of your package by 11/4 and that could take a while. Frankly I wouldn't wait until then, because so many things could go wrong with them and they never take the blame. I would give myself a deadline of mid Oct.

And I agree with one of the responses above, the processing time is getting longer, you either suffer now or suffer later for the wait, and honestly not having the $ to send isn't that much of pain comparing to the wait coming next year..

Best of luck!

Oh I lived in NY for 10 years as F1 then H1B before I adjusted status, lots of DMV stories to tell during that period. Red Temp Visitor Exp all over the DL, had to renew multiple times during OPT, H1B transitioning, at some point DMV refused to renew my license, had to drive with expired licenses and such. Once I became resident then no issues.
