(For Bogota) DS-230:NVC needs "which" Documents???

Hello everybody, :) I hope everything is going well with all the pending cases, out there...

This post applies to "Bogota, Colombia" visas only.

I post this as there is conflicting information posted here and from the NVC.

Exactly which documents need to be submitted to the NVC for the DS-230 package for

BOGOTA, COLOMBIA?

Yes, the DS-230 and the cover sheet & passport bio page copy...

What others???

This thread: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html sez you ALSO need to send

the NVC:

Birth Cert.

DAS reports

Marriage Cert.

etc...

I called the NVC today and spoke with an operator. He verified this, he told me the BC, police, Marriage docs, etc..

MUST me sent to the NVC along with the other DS-230 papers... #######????

I know from talking to at least one person that got his wife's visa, "already" he did NOT send in any of these.

Only the DS-230 and the cover sheet & passport bio page..

So.... Can peeps that have already completed the process for a Colombian CR-1 visa please tell me what

papers you sent in to the NVC in the DS-230?

I sincerely appreciate the help!

Best,

George

George I saw your email and thought best to respond this way. It appears that they changed the way things are being submitted. Ceci and I only sent the 230, passport page and cover sheet to the NVC and the rest we took to the embassy. It appears now NVC is handling everything so there is less done at the embassy. I wish I could tell you more but from other posts it seems this is happening at a lot of embassies. Shifting more work over to the NVC to handle. As previously posted, last week in Bogota many people were being sent home for lack of having all the docs. I am guessing this is becoming more of a problem and this is the way they are trying to stop the scheduling of interviews for those not prepared on interview day. I see it as a positive change, in the long run, for you, in the middle of the process it is just one more hoop. Hope this helps and I will post anything I hear. Ceci tried to get an answer yesterday at the embassy but they would not give her any info on the matter

careful with what people who "just" got the visa say because it seems that the requirements for the supporting documents for the DS230 just changed also, so they maybe giving you info that is outdated.

from what i've been reading, the copy of the passport was all that was needed before but that changed a few weeks ago. i also called NVC twice and was told the same thing, that additional docs needed to be sent. also, that link you posted states the same thing, so i would go by what NVC and the website is telling us. my wife is going to the DAS this week to try to get the certificado judicial, i already have the birth certificate and marriage certificate. it's frustrating how they just change things without notifying anyone but what doug says makes alot of sense. i guess they are trying to get as much of the documents ahead of time so as not to turn people away who show up to the interview unprepared. it's stuff we needed to get anyway, just a little sooner now. thank goodness I was able to find out before sending the DS230 out.

Hi Doug :)

Thanks for replying. That was what I recalled, sending just the 230/cover/passport copy. Thanks for verifying.

I called the NVC and was told they need everything...when I asked if this was a "new" rule he said it was "always"

that way. So I think maybe he was confused with some other Country's procedures. I have been trying to call

NVC all day to verify with another agent or preferably a supervisor. The wife went to DAS today and is getting

the 2 reports soon, hopefully, they told her 15 days for the Bogota one, that is an improvement from what I read here (one month wait) the other report she can get this afternoon, DAS said.

I could wait to get the 230 instructions, but what gurarantee they are correct for Bogota??? And that would be a big

delay, obviously...

Anyway thanks for the very fast reply, you told me what I wanted to know, you are very kind. Thanks! :):)

jediknight:

Yeah, at this point I'm not sure if things have changed. I have now confirmed from 3 peeps who got visas within

last 2 weeks, they did NOT send in the extra stuff to the NVC. Obviously the rules could have changed. I am

still trying to get through to NVC a second time.

If you get clarification on this please lemme know!

Best of luck to you and yours.

Cheers :)

George

Hello George,

I believe the new NVC rules apply as of 04/01. And yes, the documents you need to send to the NVC are the DS-230 (part I signed, part II not signed), photocopy of beneficiary's passport, certificado judicial and certificado migratorio (both from the DAS) & marriage certificate. All should be certified copies and TRANSLATED.

Hi Diana :)

Thanks! Where did you find that out? Do you have a URL? Not that I doubt what you

say, I would just like to show it to my wife as she runs around like crazy trying to get

all those papers NOW! We thought we had a bit more time until the Embassy interview...

Thanks again for the info. :)

Sure, no problem. All I did was go to the DOS link for NVC documents needed for BGT. I think you had talked about this link already but I'm not sure, so here it is: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3176.html

When you choose BGT and then click on "list of documents" it shows which have to be submitted to the NVC. It starts out with:

Birth certificate

Court and prison records (IF the beneficiary has been convicted of a crime)

Deportation documentation (IF the beneficiary has been deported from any country)

Marriage certificate

Marriage termination documentation (If either beneficiary or applicant has been divorced, had a marriage annulled or is a widow)

Military records (IF the beneficiary has been in the military)

Photocopy of valid passport

Police certificates (these are the DAS documents)

Then right below the list you will see a note that says "Applicants must obtain English language translations of any documents that are written in another language." The reason for this is because all that paperwork will be going to the NVC and their employees are not fluent in all languages, so translations need to be submitted for the documents as well.

Hi Diana :)

Yes, I went there and entered the code for Bogota. But since I got conflicting info from the NVC operator, he said there has been "no recent change,

it was always that way" (sending ALL the forms to the NVC) so I know he did not know what he was talking about. And there could simply be an error on the web page, as we know there are different procedures depending on what Embassy is used,

so..... I still am not sure... I sent an email to NVC asking for a supervisor to answer my question, so I wait for the answer...

Meanwile my wife is working hard to get all those docs I thought we had more time to acquire!

By the way... from DAS we are getting these two reports:

1. Certificado Judicial (police report)

2. Certificado Migratorio (migratory movement document).

Is that what you are getting?

Best to you and yours,

George

JK

for the 2 DAS certs, my wife went to Cartagena (she is not from there) DAS today. The system is indeed nationalized so you needn't go to your homwtown DAS office.

1. Certificado Judicial (police report)

She was given a bunch of papers, told to passport style photos, make payment at a bank and return tomorrow to sign and get the report

2. Certificado Migratorio (migratory movement document).

This must go to Bogota, she was told she could receive it in 15 days, hmm, we'll see.

Best,

George

P.S. Still waiting to hear from NVC about the DS-230 document requirement

My husband is going to Bogotá to get the DAS documents, he has family there so it will be like a mini vacation.

George, did your wife tell you how much she had to pay for those?

I'm pretty sure we're going to have to send all those documents to the NVC since it seems they changed the process. But like many of you, I always have a lingering question. Are you guys also sending the certificado migratorio to the NVC along with its translation? Or just the certificado judicial?

we'll just be sending the certificado judicial, the migratorio we'll take to the interview. payment is made at bancafe before going, but the exact amount is given over the phone when you call to make an appointment, at least thats how it is in barranaquilla. the judicial is a little less than 30,000 pesos and i don't remember how much the migratorio is

Hi Diane :)

Sorry I don't recall exactly how much, it was around $20???

I want to send both to NVC but if we have to wait too long for the "migratorio" I will not send that as I do not want to delay the case by waiting on that. I'll have the certificado judicial and other papers in a few days so I can send in the package when ready... I want a date at the embassy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not gonna put off sending in the package only for the "secondary" migratorio document. If NVC really wants its I can send it to them if they ask later...

Can we go to the Embassy yet and get our visas???? Can we? Can we??? :innocent:

Cheers!

George

I just received my reply via E-mail on the DS-230 question.

They refuse to tell me until they have their money, read here:

"A packet containing the Immigrant Visa Processing Fee Bill has been sent to the designated agent or attorney of record. The payment due amount listed on the fee bill must be paid according to the instructions before the DS-230 instructions will be sent.

Regards,

National Visa Center"

Looks like I will have to wait....:angry::crying:

Cheers!

Hello guys, my husband just gave me this link to answer any DAS questions you may have: http://www.das.gov.co/

Click on SERVICIOS

Choose Certificado Judicial (this takes you to the page about the certificado judicial)

Choose EXTRANJERIA then Certificación Movimiento Migratorio

I have one question for the people who have done this before. I read on the DAS website that the certificado judicial has to be done at the DAS building in Paloquemao Calle 17a Carrera 27 and that the certificado migratorio can be done at Calle 100 # 11b-27, is this right? 2 different locations in Bogotá for the DAS documents?

Also, do the applicants have to bring anything from the embassy or NVC in order to get these documents? Or can they just go in and get them?

Thanks!!!

Diana
