I have a question for everyone that had the interview 

are they going to ask your A #  ? ( do you have to memorize the A # ? ) 

are they going to ask to explain the NO questions ( like #14 where you ever involved in genocide ? will they ask what is genocide ? )

Hi I had my interview recently and I didn't have to tell her my A# nor did I have to go into details about the "no" responses. If you answered " yes" to some of those questions then I would expect them to ask you to explain. Good luck !

I think it depends on the English skills the applicant has when being interviewed.  I've heard where someone (who had answered no to all of those questions) was asked for their definition (in their own wording) of one of the words in the question.  I believe the interviewer probably just wanted to confirm the applicant actually understood what the word meant because the applicant had a bit of a language barrier. 

 

No, they don't expect you to have your A# memorized.  They do expect you to know certain things though off the top of your head which the average person WOULD know immediately (spouse's date and place of birth, children info, SS#).

No you don't need to memorize your A# and no they won't explain you what they are asking in those yes/no questions because you have already answered them in your application. They will just confirm your answer. If you didn't know what genocide was when you filled your application, you couldn't have answered it truthfully, right?

 

It is rare that ask definitions but if the applicant is really struggling with his/her English, they could ask if they know what xxx/yyy means before they answer. Better to go over the application form thoroughly and identify any word you might struggle before the interview. If they ask for a definition, they stress out too much. you don't need to give a perfect dictionary definition but more or less need to explain the meaning. If you say you don't know it or give an absurd answer, they will fail your 1st interview due to lack of English speaking and understanding. Note this is not a denial yet. You will get a 2nd interview within 1-2 months later. If you fail the 2nd interview, then they will deny your application.

I hate to say it but I have seen a few people post about their interview experience in this forum, some recently and they've been asked to quickly review the YES/NO questions... and if English isn't your first language or your accent is very strong be prepared for them to go into details.  If you use the search function there was a post maybe a month or so ago where someone WAS asked if they knew what genocide was and to elaborate.

 

As @charmander it's not normal, but it can happen.  But I don't think it's anything to panic about.
