im here in my medical and just finished my interview. realizing that i fkd up a question "have u ever tried marijuana" me being so honest and the doctor was too quick to ask. I said i have tried ones when i was a teenager. So if i tested negative.. Will i still be denied for visa?

You didn't f-up the question. You told the truth. You should never lie about it.

You did what you did and you cant change the past. There is a possibility of you getting a 1 year ban for marijuana use. Be prepared just in case.

Being honest was the correct thing to do. There is no other valid option.

You will probably be deemed ineligible for a visa for 1 year, contingent upon a clean test/test(s). Not guaranteed, but be prepared.

Well just to give you a heads up just in case a ban is incurred you will need to wait a year and during that time you will need to remain drug free which will be easy since you are clean. Also, it is best to periodic drug test throughout the 1 year ban to have evidence of being drug free.

We know you think the 1 year ban is harsh but, to no offense to you, it doesn't matter what you think. You didn't make the rules. The US government has a zero tolerance for drug use even if it was years ago. If they say you have to be drug free and will incur a ban if have ever used before then that is the rule you have to follow to be able to immigrate.

Fortunately, you will still be able to immigrate. It may take a little longer but you still have a chance.

Is there also chance that i will be approved and not suffer the 1 year ban? Since i am scheduled for psychiatrist interview.

Yes it is possible that you might not incur a ban. You should be prepared for either case.

From what i have seen with other case similar to yours, if you were referred to a psych interview, it looks like it is headed in the direction of a ban. You can search the board to find cases like yours to get an idea on what happens next.

Good luck.

Sorry but are you really sure that my case is the same? Because I've read from the other boards, the usual case that gets 1 year ban are the ones who just recently used the marijuana. Like 8 months ago or 2 years ago. Mine was one time use and when I was a teenager. I was told by someone here it won't be an issue at all as it is one time use and I was a teen. Someone also said the embassy wont even ask me about it because it wont be an issue.

There is a big difference between to "use" and to "try".

Is it heading to the direction of 1 year ban, because once in a lifetime you tried a bit of marijuana out of curiosity together with other kids while being a teenager? You have never used it and your tests always been and are clear now, will you be deemed ineligible for visa because of that? No:-)

Not for immigration purposes. "Trying" is an instance of "using".

There are a number of threads here on VJ where one use many years ago led to a 1 year visa ineligibility. That certainly doesn't mean they will do so here, but it is a real possibility and at the discretion of the CO.

yep, tried as a kid with other kids and it was a one time thing. I'm super straight arrow now, meaning I don't even smoke a cigarette, no vices, no drugs, rarely drinks beer and doesn't drink hard, got a regular day job. I'm a father of a special child and I take care of him. So the 1 year ineligibility for me is i think ridiculous, very mean and a hassle. My parents who are us citizens in nyc and I have sacrificed a lot for this. I also paid a lot of money that i could've spent for my child. That's why i feel it will be very unfair if they judge me with that teenage curiosity. And i'm very confident that my tests will be negative.

From the stories here, it's making me worried. I don't even blame myself as a 15 years old, almost everyone gets to try different things out of curiosity behind their parent's back. I know that there are more worst out of curiosity  stories out there.

Yes, I agree, that it depends on the consul at the time of interview, as well like other factors, which not necessarily can influence the decision of denial.

I don't know what you want me to tell you. I can't in good faith tell you everything is going to be alright. That will give you a false since of faith.

And I'm not telling you that you are doomed. You could pass the interview without a ban.

Like i said previously, you should be prepared for either outcome. You keep harping on the fact that you were a teenage. The doctor didn't ask if you ever used drugs since after the age of 18.

Again, being harsh or ridiculous has nothing to do with it. Because these are the rules and they are not going to change anytime before your interview. So you should focus your energy on plan A and plan B. I have given you a bit of info on what you should expect if a ban occurs. The only thing to do know is educate yourself with what happens after both outcomes and wait and hear the results. If you get the visa, excellent. If you get the ban, at least it didn't catch you off guard and you will still have a path to the US.

Good luck to you.
