But they haven't mentioned immigrating at all... in any way. Just worried about getting turned around for the length of stay.

I think you might be misunderstanding the flow of the comments about immigrating/immigration.

Mine and another poster's comments about "immigration" had nothing to do with the OP.  It was a sub-conversation in the thread in relation to what "immigration climate" does/does not include.

B2 visas get little scrutiny. In most cases, regardless of how much time you will be spending in the US, you are given a 6 month i-94 stay duration anyway. I traveled to the US on a combination of B1 and B2's for about 9x before I migrated. Usually just 2 questions asked each time :

- Purpose of visit

- Length of stay.

Where did you pull that number out of?  Just curious.

Actually for high cost areas like he mentions, the government per diems (do not include lodging) are more. Being a young tourist is not cheap.  Think meals out, concerts, transportation and overnights in distant locations. An older person visiting family with occasional travel would be less.

It is irresponsible to expect relatives to pick up expenses for a guest - especially one staying a long time.

This is true....I don't think I've ever been asked "how come you can afford to stay this long?" or anything related to my finances.  I always just got the same two questions.

Oh and I remember once I was asked my citizenship heading BACK into Canada which I thought was a moronic question considering I handed her a Canadian passport that clearly stated I'm a Canadian citizen, and I was standing at the Canadian border talking to a Canadian border agent.  I think she was confused at what side of the border she was working that day...

Some people can afford to travel for months and are unemployed.  I did at points where I was unemployed, paid my own way, and didn't rely on financial support during my holidays that lasted a few months here and there.  I'm by no means "rich"---but people can and do rely on savings for extensive travel/holidays.

We don't know what the OP's financial situation is, and we shouldn't assume to.  Also, considering he works for a business owned by his mother, I'm guessing she isn't very strict on allotted vacation time...

You missed the point. You think the  IO will be satisfied with a such answer? "I am unemployed and have saved up money"? And where are your ties to your home country? It's amazing how people think they can put one over during the interview and once - visa in hand - noone will check them again.

Well in the OP's case, he IS employed.   And he HAS traveled to the US before with no issues.  I believe they will take that into account as part of the whole picture.

B1/B2 visas don't face the same type of scrutiny as other visa holders do.  And who said anything about the OP (or anyone else) "putting one over during the interview"?  That's rather insulting to the OP.

Apparently you just did

I only made a general observation related to your comment focusing on the finacial aspect and forgetting the rules under which the b1/b2 visa is issued. I have never said or suggested anything about the original poster.

How so? If I had a relative come visit me here in USA I would not expect nor let them pay for anything except their own purchases for things that they wanted to bring back..

What's more amazing is that you didn't take the time to read through all of the posts before commenting. The OP works in a family business. The OP has been to USA 3 times before as a tourist.

Who were the "people" you were referring to then?  Because it sounded like you were insinuating the OP.

He's following the rules by not planning to overstay more than 6 months.

He's following the rules by travelling for pleasure/tourist reasons.

What forgotten rules are you referring to?  I'm getting genuinely confused now because I think we are both trying to say the same thing, differently.

I waw solely referring to you in that post and not the OP. You have to maintain strong ties to your country, not only at the time of the visa application but everytime you present yourself for admission.

Ok...I think I understand where you are coming from then.

Maybe it's easier depending on what country you are travelling from originally.  I think, being Canadian, I'm used to very little to no scrutiny when travelling pretty much anywhere, just flashing my passport, answering how long I'm staying, and then being sent on my way.  Honestly, I've never once even been asked anything other than the typical purpose of visit question.  I've never in my life been asked about financial or other ties to my home country when I lived there.

Sometimes I can forget that it's "harder" for others, and to fully relate to their viewpoint on that level, I'll admit.

If my relative were coming to visit me for a month from the Philippines (remember he is traveling and will be staying with various relatives)  I would foot the bill for his meals, etc...  Besides, aren't you a millionaire like me?  I didn't know there was anyone in America that didn't have trees that money was falling off of.  Aloha from Maui

Meals at home is one thing. A 30 something coming as a tourist is not going to be hanging out at his relative's house all day and night.  An evening playing pool at the neighborhood bar will easily be $50. A concert is even more.  I doubt you are going to be handing out WAM (walking around money) to your guests. Think about taxis/Uber costs.

NY/NJ is horrendously expensive. Las Vegas was mentioned; the casinos if only for the food and shows is also a big ticket location.

I sent child to visit sibling in UK for 3 weeks with $2k cash in pocket, $3K in euros on debit card, US credit card with $15K limit for emergencies;  brother picked up additional European travel costs for the two of them of about 2K pounds. $100 a day would have been very low budget.

Many families cannot afford another mouth to feed. If the family is receiving any government benefits like food stamps, free lunch at school, TANF, Medicaid, they should not be footing the bills of guests.
