What are you planning to do for 5 months? Where are you planning to stay for these 5 months? What job do you have that lets you take 5 months off? How much money do you have to support yourself for these 5 months?

These are the questions you will most likely by asked at the POE.

What are your answers?

I dont think you get it. 'Touring around' and 'busy when I get home' and 'enough money' are very vague answers. The CBP will expect specifics. Exactly which town, city and for how long, exactly what job you have back home (if any), exactly how much money you have.

If you are already avoiding answering the questions on a forum then good luck at the POE, you will need it.

It's one thing to advise him/her (sorry I don't know the OP's gender) of questions that may be asked and to be prepared, but why do they need to answer that to you? Then you expect answers that meet up to your standards? Who are you? Just a poster on a forum that is supposed to give helpful advice to people.

The CBP at the airport almost always asks when you will be leaving the US, I always prefer to answer that question with the exact date instead of saying "in 5 months". It might not make a difference at all but I'm thinking it sounds better to their ears that you have the exact date instead of just some vague "oh, in about 5 months or so".

True.  I believe the OP has purchased a return ticket, so he could easily refer to it/show it to CBP.

I think he's mostly nervous about travelling in general across a border because he hasn't done so in several years...I'd be a bit apprehensive about it too especially in this new "immigration climate" the US is under these days ;)

@RO_AH Thank you very much! :D I really appreciate your advise, concern/help, and for being sensitive about it. :D Exactly, I just needed advise since it's been a while when I last traveled to the States, and I will just be by myself. I'm used to travelling with my parents/family. It's different when you travel alone compared to traveling together with your family. And it's my first time to have a 5-month vacation/trip to the US, and it just had me thinking that they might have speculations or something even if my purpose is only for vacation. When I told some of my friends that I will be staying for 5 months, someone commented that I should have just gotten a 3-month ticket just to be safe, and I also remembered I had a friend before who was interrogated and had her bags opened/checked..so that's where my anxiety started, and lead me to this forum to ask your opinions about this. :) I don't want to rebook my return ticket anymore because I don't want to spend another extra. :( But then, my fears are just all in my head. I might just be too overthinking. Hehe. :D

Depend on the CBP agent...some will ask if you are rich taking a 6 mths vacation at age 30,

do you have a job & what job allows a person to take 6 mths vacation with no specific reason.

You should not lie to them & remember you can apply or an extension while here, the current

climate matters not how many times you have visited before, their new rules are to go with

gut instinct....a visa these days garanteed nothing its that CBP who make the final decision

based on the facts you present and demeanor

@az2014

I'll be visiting New Jersey and stay at my uncle's house for around 2 months, tour New York as well, visit my other friends and relatives in Washington, and stay there for another month, then on to Nevada to visit my aunt and tour around neighboring states. I'd be celebrating Christmas and New Year with them. I work for my mom's business, I surpervise her retail shop. I'd be bringing around $3500, plus I'll be using my credit cards too.

How much money do you suggest? I won't be spending a lot since the last time I went there, I didn't spend so much since it was my relatives who spent mostly on our trips/foodtrips haha

Need your guidance,thanks!

Min $100 per day plus plane fares inside US

That too.  But Trump is now cutting ways for legal immigration too with this new proposed legislation, so it affects both.

The IO will want to know what job you have back at home that allows you to take 5 months off, yet it pays well enough to do extensive travelling. And no, flashing your credit card won't impress him.

Some people can afford to travel for months and are unemployed.  I did at points where I was unemployed, paid my own way, and didn't rely on financial support during my holidays that lasted a few months here and there.  I'm by no means "rich"---but people can and do rely on savings for extensive travel/holidays.

We don't know what the OP's financial situation is, and we shouldn't assume to.  Also, considering he works for a business owned by his mother, I'm guessing she isn't very strict on allotted vacation time...

Well they aren't immigrating....

Well obviously not at the present moment, no.  But changing policy in how some legal immigration goes forward, is part of the overall "immigration climate", is it not?  That was my point in the above comment.

But they haven't mentioned immigrating at all... in any way. Just worried about getting turned around for the length of stay.
