Replacing an old SSN card

Hi all.

I have a question here regarding my SSN card. I received one when i was on J1 visa a long time ago and on the card (more line a piece of paper) and on the card it says, "VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION" .

Now i am a LPR with I 551 stamp on my passport. I know the number is still valid BUT do i need to request for a new SSN card?

Would it pose any issues in the future if i just use it as it is now - the card is in a very good condition? (i did not laminate or anything like that but it was stored safely).

You can, but don't have to.

Your "INS authorization" (the INS is now USCIS) is your I-551 stamp and LPR status.

The only time you must go and get a new card/update your status with the SSA is after becoming a US citizen.

I would get a new one without the restrictions. Reason being you can just use your drivers license plus unrestricted SSN vs having to show your GC.

ROC 2009
Naturalization 2010
