My husband has been here for a couple of years now and even though I have gotten some stupid comments in the beginning from my boss and a few others, I thought that was a thing of the past.  Then today I went to see a new doctor.  He seemed curious about my last name and asked where my husband was from.  I told him Morocco and he said "Morocco, I'm surprised he hasn't cut off your head.  Oh, he must be one of the good ones (good ones being said in a sarcastic manner).  I was stunned and said "yes my husband IS a good man."  I didn't know what to do or say.  Just sharing my insanity of the day.

Wow that's wildly inappropriate! Definitely don't go there anymore.

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Look for a different doctor, but also realize that you will hear this kind of comments your whole life.

And if you guys have kids prepare yourself for this one: aren't you afraid he will kidnap them and take them to his country?

And this one is a classic: did you have to convert to Islam? And he didn't make you wear a veil? Wow..

It's pathetic behavior and I'm sorry you have to endure this.

Yes I will definitely be getting a new doctor.  I told my husband about it and he was upset at first but later we were joking about it.  Can't let ignorant people get to you!

I would report him to the medical board.  Not that they can do much because its words but it goes in his file.  If a doctor can say that than I would have to wonder if he would give EVERYONE the same care and treatment.

My hubby had to be taken to the ER by ambulance a couple of weeks ago and was treated horribly be the EMT's, too. We filed a complaint and they even admitted that they were "unnecessarily rough with him".  He's been discriminated against at his job too lately.

I am so sorry that happened to your husband.  That is beyond awful.  To treat a sick or injured person roughly because of prejudice is just not ok!  When people ask my husband where he is from he has started telling them some other country.  Such a shame.

It is a shame. His throat had swollen up and he couldn't speak or breathe well. They kept yelling at him (not to check on him) and were saying things like "what kind of name is this, anyway?" "Do you even speak English?" "Oh it doesn't matter!" It was really awful for him, and I'm so ashamed for our fellow countrymen who are doing these kind of things to people.  I feel terrible for having brought him here and he's being subjected to this kind of thing.

I don't even know what to say.  I mean what happened to me was just a very ignorant comment.  But what happened to your husband is just horrible.  I hope those people got in some sort of trouble for how they treated him.  And I'm sorry your husband is facing prejudice at work as well.  My husband is lucky in that regard as most of his co-workers and supervisors are immigrants.  He works with mostly Haitian and Jamaican people but there are a few guys there from Egypt as well.  No Moroccans unfortunately. And here in South Florida there is a very very large Hispanic population and my husband looks Hispanic.  Not to me but others mistake him for Spanish all the time.  We are often in stores and at the checkout line the cashier starts speaking to him in Spanish.  I hope everything gets resolved and your husband is treated the way everyone is supposed to be treated.  It is good to hear from you but sorry it is about this situation.

New doctor, and file a complaint with your state medical board. You file on grounds of unprofessional conduct.

Former healthcare worker here, what was said was inappropriate and if you file, you will at least get a written apology form the board if not from the doctor himself, maybe more. I urge you to file (I would anyone) because many people will keep thinking they can make these type of ignorant, racist remarks unless they get in trouble and learn a lesson.

My husband and I have been together for a while now... and quite a bit has passed my ear since then and quite a bit will pass yours.  I have learned that what passes mine I keep in mine and do not pass on to my husband.  Yes I want to vent and share with my husband but sharing negative comments said about him and his culture only stresses him out.  You have to remember, "same as mine" that your husband is over here in a new culture, adjusting, and the more negative things he hears will just make it harder.  Keep things light and positive and don't whisper in his ear all the bad things people are saying about him/or his religion or culture or he 'may' develop a negative thought process.  You want him to be happy, make friends, and be welcoming, and have the ability to treat others and he would want to be treated.  This could close him off and build walls.  Just a thought... not saying you are.
