Minors and parental permission

Don't BoTh parents have to give permission for a minor (aged 12 aged 7 ) to get a tourist visa approval ? I'm confused as to how an approval can happen without BOTH of the parents either being at the consulate or signing any paperwork saying they are ok with the application.

What's the custody situation and/or country's laws?

Dominican Republic and divorce was settled as joint but one lives in Us and the other has the kids mostly but there has never been legal

custody signed to just one. 

 

Im wondering how the consulate would not ask to see the other parents permission of any kind. I find that very strange considering how strict we are here in the US with our kids and safety.

I don't know about the consulate but to get out of the country and to get into the US they usually ask for permission. I'm from another country and once I traveled with my dad as a minor and I remember that he had to show information twice.

Yes we know there's something that needs to be signed and notarized on the Dominican side before the kids can travel but I am

just shocked they didn't ask for that from BoTh parents when here in the Us to gt my kids passports both parents had to be at the appointment Or a notarized permisssion had to be brought. So strange. Smh.

if they are given passports it means that both parents have agreed to let the children travel out of the country. I would assume that the us is simply deferring responsibility on this to the country issuing the passport and only judging on if the child is qualfies for a visa. then the airlines usually require a signed letter from the non traveling parent showing thier continued approval of such travel.

Why would they ? They assume that if kids have passports - which require consent of both parents (in most countries at least), both of them agreed on travel.

But is divorced the same as not married? I'm pretty sure the parents need to have permission of the other on the birth certificate. But maybe not. Guess we will never know. I am

very glad the laws are straight and in place for us here in the US!
