Hi all,

I have a quick question, I am the beneficiary coming from Australia and patiently waiting for my visa for which we applied for in August. I was wondering what happens if I have personal, unsecured debt or potentially default on a debt. Does it affect the application or visa in anyway?

Thanks for your help

Beneficiaries finances doesn't normally affect the process.

Heheh

as I'm in japan the hours will be a little weird for scans but I'll update every day night time for you guys.

To everyone;

So get informed delivery please and check your case status online don't rely on scans as they are here to know where they are but your case status first will update online in their web site (yep sometimes even apps are late!)

Hello Naes,

We tried to sign up for Informed Delivery as you suggested but system said "Your address is not currently eligible for Informed Delivery. Please check back at a later date". It is not that we are going to live in rural area. Its eastern NJ 30 minutes drive to Manhattan, NYC.

Sorry for that... some areas are still not available..

When it's getting closer to your time don't forget to check your mailbox daily! And firmly because somebody actually realized they didn't see the mail and it was sitting there whole weekend!

Also let's hope they'll start updating the website better :)

Hi guys, I 'm happy to see some July filers already touched..... I'm curious of why there are May/June filers still pending to be touched???

Unfortunately cases do not go in order, I believe we have at least 5 people in vj in May that are waiting (at least) and in June one of the earliest filers of June 6th such as john is already past 220 days.

we don't know the actual reason but they seem to move to the next month at around when 1500 cases left and they do 2 months actively at ones, and 1 month before them usually gets a little attention depending on case numbers.

In general other than these cases, background checks for each case is different. Some takes even longer than others, some may be still pending when others are already being adjudicated.

So hopefully they will at least wrap up May soon.

Yes it is my biggest pet peeve as well.

but As I am seeing it happening I'm going to keep myself relaxed about it. It happens we can't do anything but hope for the best and if it happens deal with it. At least that's how I'm thinking now, but who knows how frustrated I may get if it happens...

I hope they will wrap up May and June soon and move on with july and August :)

apparently there was even an april filer who just got noa2 today!

Right, "usually". The debt piece is not an immigration issue or concern. There are a small handful of countries where they won't let you exit with certain types of debt. That's just local laws. And there's some others who don't stop you from leaving, but it could be considered abatement if one leaves the country without making proper arrangements to repay the debt. Again, this is all about local laws...US immigration doesn't care one bit about the applicant's debts.

Informed Delivery developer here (well formerly...I work on the mobile apps now). There's still certain types of addresses that either 1) just aren't keyed in a way that can support ID, or 2) are in an area without sufficient equipment to perform the scanning of the mail and make it available in a way ID needs it. Item #2 is uncommon now, but there's still some areas where that's the case. As for scenario #1, this could be because of the type of building you live in, if the building's address is registered as a business, etc.

Hey all,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

Just wanted to know if anybody knows if this potential government shutdown would affect us/slow down USCIS? I think they're separate entities I just wanted to make sure

Not unless it goes for months.

USCIS is self funded- doesn't get affected.

NVC is budgeted by DOHS every 2 years, so it won't get affected right away.

Embassies have budgets, so as long as they have enough budget it won't get affected.

So again unless it goes for months we will be ok.
