Day 89 here! We're on the same received date. I am missing him so much! Skype calls everyday isn't enough. I want to be with him so I could hold his face. This process is taking years off my life. :(

I kind of feel like it is taking years off of my life too.  I have a few more white hairs and a lot more wrinkles.  I freak out every time he has a cold or fever or probably if he stubbed his toe.  I just want him to make it here safely so I can take care of him and fuss over him.  Not that he needs it!  I know he is turning into more of a mom than my mom ever was with worrying over everything in my life and checking if I ate and monitoring messenger to see if I slept enough, etc.  We all (on this forum) have this person who we cherish and want so much to take care for and we can't and it is so heartbreaking.  When my fiancé gets here from Egypt, I think I won't be able to stop looking at him and fussing over him for a very long time.  Hang in there.  Maybe when the time comes, the years will be added back to our lives.

Hi all,

We're at Day 95 now, it is seriously hard work, waiting and praying there isn't going to be some RFE or any other form of delay but this does take forever and it is soul destroying. I know I've put on some weight and stuff during this whole process because it is so draining.

In January I have decided I am going over to see my fiancee for 6 weeks, that cannot come soon enough for sure.

Hope you're all doing well.

No words can express how I long for him, to be in his arms and just stay there. I know he wants me home ASAP too but he's tougher about his emotions than me. He is more relaxed, and always tell me that it's all gonna be worth it. I just don't understand this process anymore. All we want is to be with that most significant person in our lives but why are they making it soooo difficult for us? I hope the good ole days will come back soon where K1 applicants will only have to wait at a maximum of 90 days for noa2. I am at day 90 today, and I am really emotional right now. I hope and pray for USCIS to hear our cries and work faster on our cases. Sending my hugs to you dear, we can do this even when we're barely hanging. There will always be a rainbow after this dark, stormy rain.

Hi fellow August filers! NOA1 is Aug. 11. Do you think we’ll be approve this last week of January or by February. My fiance is coming to visit end of April to May. He’ll be staying for 3 weeks. Do you think it would be possible that I’ll have my visa by that time? I really wish though. Coz I really dread long airplane rides. Lol

Almost certainly expedited cases: https://www.uscis.gov/forms/expedite-criteria

Then again, there's always a small handful of super lucky individuals...along with those super unlucky ones that wait months longer than average as well. =\

I met someone on VJ that received an NOA2 in 30 days last October. The case wasn't expedited. That was "normal" processing time last year.

Nope, that was just typical processing times when I filed on Dec. 1st, 2016. Actually, when I filed ~30 days was the average timeframe...taking over 90 days resulted in some change of plans and having to transfer the case to a different embassy. While 102 days is fast in today's environment, it was over 3x longer than we initially expected.

So... this is the distribution and the Gauss curve for the number of days between received and approved cases, for the month of May 2017 (as to 11/20/2017). I left out seven cases that seemed to be expedites. Additionally, I only considered received cases, meaning I also left out some cases that had already been touched, like Date of Birth or Name updated cases. The remaining cases (and big majority) used for this calculations made a total of 1522.

Those 1522 cases gave a mean of 169.95 days from Received to Approval date, with a stardard deviation of 9.46 days.

That curve below is actually very useful to get some interesting probabilities. If we assumed that June is going to follow a not very different pattern than the previous month, we could say that, for example:

  • The probability for a June filer to be approved in less than 160 days is only 14.65%.
  • That the probability for a June filer to be approved between 160 and 180 days is 70.95%.
  • That the probability for a June filer to be approved in more than 170 days is (an astonishing) 49.78%.
  • Or that the probability for a June filer to be approved in more than 180 days is (a still astonishing) 29.67%.

Hopefully the processing times will lower in the next months and we'll see how that curve will slowly be moving to the left and those percentages lower or raise in our favor. Fingers crossed!! :)

I made a little mistake on the last probability, by the way. That one was meant for more than 175 days. For more than 180 days is 14.40%. Sorry.

Welcome!

While there's nothing stopping you from doing that, an important detail is that you won't be allowed back into the US without a new visa (like a CR-1...ETA: 12-14 months) or until after you receive AP (filed alongside AOS after marriage). The K-1 is a single use visa.

After you enter and marry the petitioner within 90 days, you need to file for AOS to remain in the US. You can also file for AP (to travel abroad and return), and an EAD (to work) at the same time as AOS. ETA: ~4 months or so for approval of AP + EAD.

If there is an emergency that requires going abroad briefly, you can request an expedite or emergency AP only at that time. You must show evidence of the emergency (they're pretty strict here). This is an option, but always be prepared that they won't grant it.

thank you for this info. 4months a little long tho.. but i understand the process. and that's the law ;)

anyways, another question. or let's say, another work around.. we're waiting for noa2 and hopefully it will come soon. once my visa approved, can i travel to the philippines and stay there for 2weeks before flying to the US? i mean, can i fly out from the Philippines to US directly? or do i need to comebakc here in canada? currently working here. :) thank you!

Yup. It used to take under 90 days, but there's been a considerable backlog for the past year and it's been inching up to 4 months and even 5 months sometimes.

Sure, you can travel anywhere like you normally would (outside of the US) before entering on the K-1 visa. You can fly out from the Philippines. However, you must go through the GCP and obtain the CFO sticker for a Filipino national to exit the Philippines on an immigrant (or K-1) visa. Some info: http://www.visaconnection-philippines.com/cfo-orientation-seminar.html

Edit: The other option would be to fly to Canada and then use a separate ticket to fly to the US (or cross via land).
