I am a Filipina and I wasn't offended at all!  Thank you for this comment.

i know right? i'm not offended either. i mean it's a fact of life that a lot of the k1 visas are filipinos and we do fall into the "abnormal" amounts of people when you compare it to other filers from other countries.  and we're all good if whatever people wanna comment on whatever. it's a free world. everyone's entitled to his/her opinion/perception. at least we're all cool about it so no one else has to get offended for us flips... i hope and we can all be on our merry way being excited for all the updated scans! i'm actually a december filer but i lurk around in excitement for everyone else ahead of my case. more approved/moved cases = closer time to us december filers!

It actually is weird for me... just because the number of applications are abnormal, why would it offend anyone?

it is just about a number...

why would it mean that I'm saying people are abnormal?

dude i'm sure naes knows all about american freedom and can learn even more about it when she gets there. but you also should educate yourself of philippine laws & policies, since you're future wife is from here.

traveling is a freedom which everyone can enjoy. that is true and no one is stopping her to travel as she pleases but then whatever country you travel to you have to follow all their laws and also the laws of the country she's coming from. which i think everyone would agree.

you're forgetting that although she's planning to be a us citizen later, she's still also a filipino citizen and as a citizen of our country we must abide laws in our country. remember she's still in philippine soil when you have the visa unless she does her interview in another country.

sure, i find this cfo seminar stupid as well in fact a major hassle since it's soo far from where i live, that area's ghetto-ish and traffic and on the "unsafe" side and an added cost to me. i can think of soo many valid excuses.

but if the immigration officer sees that she has a fiance visa stamped in her passport, she will not even be allowed to board the jet to leave the country. trust on me that. i've seen it soo many times at the airport for filipinos that work abroad. when the immigration officer sees a work visa stamped or a spouse visa or fiance visa and you do not go through the poea stamp/cfo stamp.. then you can kiss that flight good bye!  our immigration officers are very strict with us even if we're just traveling for fun.

i live abroad 85% of my life after graduating from university. so whenever i have a different type of visa (not student one) i have to go through the poea (a government agency that covers all filipino workers abroad) the equivalent of the agency handing the cfo. so i have lots of experience of this type of seminar from different countries. and i had many experiences coming in and out of my country and seeing these filipinos that were not allowed to board their flight. so it's up to you if you want to take that risk.

if you do try to continue this route, make sure you have a return flight to the philippines. (even if you're not flying back to the philippines and taking a direct flight to america from singapore). that is your only chance of getting away with not having that stamp in your fiance's passport with the immigration officer. although for a cheap amount, i'd rather pay that stupid seminar that pay for an expensive airplane ticket that i'm not going to be taking.

and about your rant for human rights? omg this is exactly why our government has this type of . our government set this up for overseas filipino workers and for those marrying foreigners so that they know their rights and how to assimilate with the community when they get to that specific country they are moving into. some part of the seminar covers what life is like in that country, basic things and knowledge on how to survive on your own, their/customs/traditions in that specific country that you have to abide. sometimes even really annoying to me is they actually do the whole process of you arriving at the airport, to checking in, going through immigration and then boarding and what happens too when you land in that foreign country.

i'm an educated person, college graduate with a post graduate course and probably lower class a bracket in the economic pyramid. i find that cfo seminar excruciating because i know all that and i travel a lot all over europe, america, asia apart from my work. i've also been to america and lived there. but then when you think about it, most of the filipinos that work abroad and those that marry foreigners are from very low income bracket families that probably don't even travel abroad and if by chance they have... it could be nearby asian countries. a lot of those filipinos are also not so educated so they are subject to abuse, being taken advantage of and all sorts of human rights violations. so i get it, it's stupid for me but super beneficial to them. as a filipino citizen myself, i have to abide that as well like it or not. and one of the things about this seminar is that it registers you to be there in that country so if there are any calamities or natural disasters or war in that particular country then our embassy will be looking for her to make sure she's safe, give her stuff or fly her to safety. or if they're battered wives or raped, jailed for criminal acts or whatever (cause this does happen a lot to a lot of filipinos) then the government can also save that person since that person is registered like you're registered to a particular state or country. so basically at its very core this seminar is just to protect filipino citizens.

Very well said.. besides CFO will only take a couple of hours it wont hurt your time that much.

I couldn't have said it any better! This comment sums it all up. I am a Filipina and I don't see anything wrong about having a CFO seminar in my country. Thank you so much for shedding light about it. I hope it's very clear on that person who have a say/complaint about CFOs because whether he likes it or not, his fiancee will have to go through it.

aww thanks! i appreciate that you felt that way. yeah i wanted at least to voice out that we're not all thrilled to do that exit clearance. i know i'm totally not after tons of repeated ones in other countries with poea. hahaha. but at the same time i also don't see anything wrong at all. on the same note i'm also happy that the government takes that extra step to take care of their citizens no matter where they go, even if its a bit of a hassle for us. hehehe. because in the end you also just want all of your other countrymen to be able to survive and not be fooled/taken advantage wherever they may be going to because a lot of them don't know what they're getting into but are just excited for the novelty to go abroad for work or be married. since you're abroad, you probably went through poea also unless you went on a tourist visa and then got a job. so i feel you know what i'm talking about.

and about that fella, well the choice is up to him and his fiance. it's a free world so he can chose to do whatever. i did give him some help on how to go about it should he not want to do it by buying a return ticket back to the philippines but not using it. but also let him know what might happen if they chose otherwise. they can basically still go do whatever they want and i'll be excited to see how it goes for them should they decide otherwise and skirt the exit clearance policy. there will always be more adventurous people who love to defy laws.

May I ask a question?

So do they give different seminars for different countries?

i know... its weird for me too since its just a number.  but in this "millenial" world right now of so many people getting sooo offended for different people and things nowadays. you just learn to accept some others are more touchy/feely on some matters compared to others.  hehehe! it's like a trend now when you see any types of news people offended for the most trivial things. but ya seems like there in america they are especially more sensitive and on their tippy toes to different types of people (gender, raise, culture, age, etc) that they might offend a group or may take offense for a group.  my fiance and i have talked about it before comparing it in asia how we just accept each other/not much of a discrimination/hate among ourselves despite all of us being very very different. most of the times to we know like the stereotype "bad" characteristics for each other countries which we acknowledge and dislike but still manage be open arms and like them/not discriminate/not hate that particular country. i dunno weird dynamics. more on sociological (history & culture in different geographies) i guess.

and yup the government is. good for them right! at least they try to do their job! hehehe!
