Question regarding CHL.

I have been thinking about getting my CHL which is now open carry here in Texas, but I am waiting for my fiancé to arrive and for us to be married first.

Since, I own a firearm. I would like for my fiancé and I to attend a CHL class, just so that she can learn the laws and not be scared with a firearm in the house.

Thanks in advance.

Interesting.  My fiancé has very different ideas about people owning and carrying guns than I do.  It seems that here in the USA, we have a very gun-friendly country and other cultures often differ.  My fiancé is also uncomfortable about how some many places are non-smoking.  It's a bunch of little stuff.  The second one will be hard for him.  The first one made for interesting conversation after than church shooting in Texas.  It really made me realize how different from other cultures we can be.  I can't wait to find out more about how "weird" we are!  :)

Any updates?? I'm in Atlanta also, but just filed and trying to get a sent of the current timeframes.

Hi @BibisCoco...I am 177 days into the wait for the NOA2. I was pretty excited because yesterday, my timeline moved up one day! That’s the first time it has not pushed out since I started the process. So it’s looking like they will be reviewing my file in about 3 weeks. Glad to hear you filed! Stay strong!

I wonder if I am the only person who is more worried about what he will do for 4 to 6 months during AOS than I am about waiting for the NOA2 – Not financial really, Just that I am a busy kind of person and I hate sitting about.

But still, I hope for some news this month :)

The Church shooting was a tragedy, but usually when I have talked to someone from over seas, when they find out that I am from Texas, there first impressions are that we all ware cowboy hats and boots, ride horses and shoot guns all day long.

Some times I like to let them keep thinking that. ;)

LoL... Living in Florida for a few years opened my eyes to how the rest of the world thinks about Texans.

For all the new comers to the US, it is your legal right to own a firearm for hunting and personal defense. I am just interested in when my fiancé and I can take the CHL class.

A K1 holder is not a permanent resident and cannot, under normal k1 cidcucircumst, own a firearm until you file for an adjustment of status with USCIS after the 90 day period.

That would make sense considering most things can only happen after AOS

Every case is different... some cases get updated online first and then get letter, some never get updated online and the letter arrives.

No, you are not.  I know my fiancé is worried about how bored he will be.  Also, he does not feel right having me support him in any way.  That is not part of his culture at all.  He will starve himself rather than eat something I bought.  What I'm glad about is that he can cook and he knows how to budget and manage money and I think that with what he has saved, I will actually be a lot better off even if he is not working.  We will just have to move and then he can pack and unpack and shop and organize everything.  And, he can make contacts and do networking for the time when he is allowed to work.  I'm going to make sure that he drops me off at work every day and takes the car.  I want to get married right away so that he can be covered under my medical insurance and be put on my car insurance policy.  I don't know, though.  I'd be scared to take a car out in a new country.  No, you are being completely normal in worrying about this.  You'll be ok, though.  I think the time will pass quickly.  Good luck!
