LisaD...

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE WITH YOU... I would call it a 'webbed water dweller' because it sounds funny. :P

MRS BILLY BONG,

Yes indeed, the same questions come up in numerous forums.  And in those cases where there is one forum where all questions on a particular topic can reasonably be posted for the most benefit to the most people then it's arguable that the one forum is where all the questions on that topic should be.

I agree with you that when a post has multiple issues, and some of the issues belong in the forum where the post was made, then the post should stay where it was posted. But the example you gave is not clear - the I-485 for AOS requires a G-325A, so if a K1 is asking questions about G-325A to be submitted for AOS then the post belongs in the AOS forum. The fact that the person is adjusting status from K1 is not relevant, adjustment is the issue and adjusting from K1 is the same as adjusting from K3 or adjusting from any other non-immigrant status.

Yodrak

PS - but it is annoying when someone moves a thread out from under you while you're trying to reply to a post in it!

MRS BILLY BONG,

Obtaining a police report is also relevant to K3 visas and to immigrant visas. What's the 1 forum that ties these visas all together, where instructions for obtaining police reports are given to visa applicants, and where police reports are submitted?

Yodrak

Why are topics relevant to a K-1 being moved? Who's doing this? Obtaining a police report is definately relative to the K-1 visa process and two of these threads have been moved. What the heck's going on?

I didnt want a damn pop quiz Yod. Think about this..The same questions come up again and again for EVERY forum on this site. People who post a question about a police report in a K1 forum are obviously working on a K1 visa. You people are going to end up over analyzing these posts to the point of depleting the entire K1 forum..ie. question from a UK resident moves to UK forum...or somewhere in the middle of a relavent post about the G325 for a K1 a person starts talking about AOS and *POOF* it gets moved. This forum was much better before the Move Happy Organizers (my opinion of course) even with the YIPPEES and Man I Miss My Man threads. You're all making more work for yourselves than need be.

Yup, go on and put it up there, is that what it's all about?

lol, just found it funny how many times it was mentioned in this thread alone.

Agreed. But if you didn't want the job are you saying it was forced on you?

C'mon Lisa, you are brighter than that and you know it.

The comment was made many time because Daisy continued to think/post that anyone could move threads.

I've reworded this three times so as not to offend: I do not see how you drew either of those two conclusions from what was written. It's a great arguing technique, but I didn't think we were arguing!

I think you missed the rest of my intention by reading my words as hostile to you instead of what they said. I don't know what the yardstick is that Ewok uses to measure usefulness etc.

As for the power tripping, people have been thread movers for ages now & I haven't seen any evidence of power tripping over it. I see people doing their best to respond to the requests they've had from Ewok.

I'm sure some people are new and are not sure if they are posting in the right place, or it could be a gray area post that could fit in to several places.

I see the usefulness of moving threads, but after peaking at the k1 forum, it looks really strange when 1/2 the front page threads are moved threads. It seems confusing.

I still just wanna know what "scout" means? :P

I see the climate of VJ has changed (and imo not for the better) now that the designations are listed. That 'not everyone can be a mod' was the easiest example, but there are way more should you go look.

Make no mistake about it....I wouldn't ever want to be a mod here...not because I don't want to 'give back'... but because I've been very vocal all along that I feel mods are unnecessary.

You and I are not fighting as such....I do happen to be quite annoyed that you'd belittle my VJ presence by saying:

Your attitude directly subtracts from that collective effort and leaves me looking at what it is you gain from being here, other than socialization. From your point of view, I can then see why you think it's all pointless and silly.

My attitude is one from voicing an opinion about a place I've been for well over a year. Sure, there are people here wayyy longer than me...but I'm not in the habit of pizzing away my time, therefore this site obviously means something to me. To have it dismissed away by detracting from the 'collective effort' here was a bit out of line imo. You personally know how I'm willing to help anyone...so surely we can stick to the matter at hand and not take pot shots? Or if I'm misunderstanding here, please tell me how voicing an opinion...albeit not a favorable one....proves how I detract from the 'effort that is vj'.

Stina....'scouts' can temp lock topics as well as move them, 'organizers' can only move (I think)

if people here would think before posting into a forum there would be no need to move anything...................

But Deano, the rules have changed now. That's the confusing thing!

Have they been listed for awhile? I never noticed before, but can't say I ever looked.

The reason why I had the impression that anyone could post was because of this post - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...st&p=839170 - where the poster said " I want to say first that I am "nobody" as far as taking it upon myself to post this...I just move threads (like *many* others)," - and it struck me as odd because I didn't know there were people other than moderators who moved stuff. If it said "organizer" there even when it was first posted, fine. I didn't see it. Never paid attention to those parts of the sidebars. My fault for not paying attention.

It's fine if there are levels of members here - makes sense. It'd be a big place for CEwok to patrol on his lonesome. Doesn't bother me if some are designated whatever. Nor does the presence of their titles bother me. Some have been here a long time and should be able to help take responsibility for site management.

And as someone with experience in running websites, I say, whoever's site it is gets to make the rules - go with it. I'll express opinions, but the final say is theirs and I have no sense of entitlement to anything else.

In fact, I think I already said less democracy here on the site is a good thing!

Sorry to have stirred this sort of pot now, meauxna with the designations and what not - definitely an unitended consequence.

It is getting quite disconcerting that so many threads are being moved. In the K1 forum right now, as I'm typing this, there are 13 threads displayed on the fist page (besides the 2 pinned ones at the top) and 7 of them show as being moved somewhere else. Its getting to where by the time I finish reading the thread, especially if it has a couple of responses already, its been moved somewhere else.

I'm not sure, but there was some mention that a more comprehensive guide for moving the various threads around was going to be published....can we not wait until that is up an running, before so many posts are moved?

But Deano, the rules have changed now. That's the confusing thing!

And they keep changing AND don't apply equally throughout the site...

I'd like to see you site specific examples of what you keep referring too.

And isn't the whole point here to be social and develop cameraderie? Or is it the case of 'unless you have a visa pending at some stage, you cannot be social on vj'?

I'd say no....it's not the whole point.

It's a by-product. But not the whole point.

I'd be very careful how you proceed because all this is is a social network of people sharing experiences, nothing more nothing less. Calling it something different could be cause for concern, no?

It's a place for research.Does that concern you?

I was alerted that my feedback would be valuable in this thread and I agree.

The Scout/Organizer titles were simply at the time created by me as a way to organize the groups of people who were gracious enough to help spot some threads that had been posted in the wrong forum or in some cases if a spammer or other crazy thread occured to help lock it down pending my review if required. The titles are not a merit badge or status line. In fact, I think most people would consider it a burdon to have to help out and spot these things instead of just letting someone else do it. I think that the people in these groups also do not care about the title in general and I am betting if I put no title at all people would be ok as well. I wanted the roles to not be 'hidden' or behind the scenes and wanted transparency so there were no conspiracy stories and that drove the title as much as anything. So if bottom line there is a concern about titles then please PM me and we can even remove them if they are really a problem.

As for moving threads... there has probably been too much or possibly better put, a lack of consistency. For this everyone can please blame me on and not the organizers. I have been trying to write a guide for this for about two weeks and have been stuck on other issues instead. On a bright note the other issue is now resolved -- we are on a new faster server that should make the site less slow or erratic on response times in peak hours. Now that I have more time I will get back to the Guide on moving which will certainly make things more consistent and less subjective on when things get moved.

Also I would ask that everyone feel free to give ideas on how to make the site better. No one should attack each other for their ideas as in the end I would be the one deciding on implementing things and no member should be blamed ever for any changes. I think we all just want to make the site as good as it can be and rational polite debate is always good if it is productive and not destructive.

Thank you and please PM me any time you have anything to ask regarding the site :).
