Okay, then I withdraw the previous comments. But someone the K1 forum the other day said he/she moved stuff, didn't recognize them as a mover, and now I can't tell who can move and who can't, except that whomever can has been doing so A LOT lately it seems. Could be that people are just posting in the wrong place more lately. Chicken and egg?

Whatever - stuffs going to get moved. As meauxna said, the little "moved" flag is still there and while I find it obnoxious to suddenly find myself in a different forum, whatever.

In the grand scheme of things - this is the least of our collective problems.

on the left hand side under the avatar etc.. there is something that says Group: members, and if someone is a mover it will say organizer....

Thanks for saying that, because I couldn't figure out what was troubling about it. Personally, I rarely visit specific forums; I prefer to view new posts. I didn't even consider that someone might not like being taken automatically to a different forum.

I can't imagine what the problem would be in finding myself in a new forum, but that's the point of this whole discussion, really. Understanding that everyoe uses the site in one of several different ways. You simply can not cater to everyone's wants, so it is up to The Big Giant Head to call some shots, and if users feel strongly enough about having things "their way" and can make a compelling case they should speak up and speak directly. No back handed complaining threads---there IS no Visa Journey Corporation!

Talk about the olden days.. I DO prefer the way I did it (of course I do, it was the done thing *in my time*). There was ONE forum, everyone shared it, information passed around easily, people could share experiences that were useful (just because I was moving from Greece didn't mean there was no merit in how someone successfully moved from Australia--we got ideas from each other). There wasn't this obsession with finding The One Way to do everything and people tended to think for themselves a bit more. And you know what? We all got our visas in good time and live happily ever after.

VJ clearly has more traffic now than that group had at the time so one forum isn't enough. but as the split/split/split threads (April 17 biometrics appointments: gather here!!!) divide everyone down to the nth degree, the whole thing is becoming less useful. You've got to give people guidelines at some point and take action to keep them conforming. Usenet offered its own code of conduct that people followed, and users felt a sense of community respect/responsibility to each other. I don't see that here as often.

Tim'sDaisy: Not just anyone can move threads. In case you missed the memo. :)

This all seems so pointless and silly.

I find that a hurtful thing to read, actually. I just figured out what the people who are advocating the re-org have in common: They answer immigration related questions from anyone/everyone. They investe time in making sure they are current with a wide variety of information and they engage in conversations with others to learn new information that they can share with others. They monitor USCIS press releases, congressional action, and reports from actual offices. They put out effort to save people money, time and heartache.

Your attitude directly subtracts from that collective effort and leaves me looking at what it is you gain from being here, other than socialization. From your point of view, I can then see why you think it's all pointless and silly.

I'm sorry you find it hurtful, but it is honestly the way I feel. And I think you're reading more into what I mean. This whole moving this thread/congrats subforum/etc is silly and pointless. That's not saying I find the people here useless...that's two different things.

I understand people's need to 'give back' and once I'm further along the journey and have more knowledge, I'm sure I'll dispense it too. I think it's great to 'give back' and help others as others have helped you. But no one here is an immigration specialist...and I think there's a very fine line between passing along knowledge and making it part of one's day to update onesself as to the current changes and then dispense that information as if one were a visa helpdesk. But hey, different strokes, whatever.

Now here's my line in the sand. While I like pretty much each and every person who's an 'organizer' or 'scout', I find myself confused by the apparant need to display these 'badges of honor'. We all know certain members always had the capability of moving stuff....and hey, if that's what's needed, then fine! But why title it? I don't say that out of anything but pure curiosity. Does it serve some validation of sorts?

And what I also find silly and pointless is the amount of threads that have been moved...so much so it's caused an apparant kerfuffle with people as this is the umpteenth time it's been brought up. Some threads stay, others get moved...and it's 'all for the good of ease with information' or whatever the reason is, yet there was really not much confusion beforehand. We share each other's highs and lows...but now certain threads are deemed not as meritorious as others...and the K-1 forum? PUT PROBLEMS IN THE MAIN FORUM! but slink off to some congrats siberia for good news cos it might hurt or upset people or it's cluttering or what have you.

So please don't read into what I say and turn it into something it's not....I'm hardly subtle as it is. The people here are great and whatnot, but forgive me for saying but the power trips are not.

after all, not just anyone can move a thread ;)

ETA: I myself find it hurtful that you feel the need to question what I gain from this site merely for disagreeing with you. Surely the passion which I display for these changes at least shows that I give a sh!t about this site, if not I wouldn't much care, would I? My reasons for being here are just like anyone else's...and the fact that they are questioned is shocking tbh...obviously there were delays in my case which prevented us from filing so as I'm not 'down the line' there's not too much I can say firsthand from experience, is there? But I help out when I can...you should remember that, no?

Hmm...It seems this ' Move ' titled threads have been created in the K-1 Forums then moved. Afterwards, another one is created then moved again. This is probably the 3rd or 4th one that will moved to the Site Updates Forums. It's like a chu-chu train.

Why are topics relevant to a K-1 being moved? Who's doing this? Obtaining a police report is definately relative to the K-1 visa process and two of these threads have been moved. What the heck's going on?

Well, how to obtain one in the UK is probably better suited to the UK forum, dontcha think?

MRS BILLY BONG,

Obtaining a police report is also relevant to K3 visas and to immigrant visas. What's the 1 forum that ties these visas all together, where instructions for obtaining police reports are given to visa applicants, and where police reports are submitted?

Yup, go on and put it up there, is that what it's all about?

Now here's my line in the sand. While I like pretty much each and every person who's an 'organizer' or 'scout', I find myself confused by the apparant need to display these 'badges of honor'. We all know certain members always had the capability of moving stuff....and hey, if that's what's needed, then fine! But why title it? I don't say that out of anything but pure curiosity. Please ask Ewok to post publically to clarify this. I am with you on this one. I didn't want or ask for the 'job' or the title. I preferred when the title was NOT displayed. I do not think it adds anything to me, my persona here or the information I post. I think it detracts.

And what I also find silly and pointless is the amount of threads that have been moved...so much so it's caused an apparant kerfuffle with people as this is the umpteenth time it's been brought up. Some threads stay, others get moved...and it's 'all for the good of ease with information' or whatever the reason is,

Yet again, this needs to be taken directly to the one and only person who can and maybe will do something about it: Ewok. It is HIS site, HIS decision how to organize things, HIS call how forums are organized. It is HIS words you mock and I would like to see it discussed directly there. If the site is not to your liking, my liking or anyone else, shop with your feet & go elsewhere. We've already covered that there is more than one way that people like to use immigration sites, and there is one out there to suit every flavor.

...but now certain threads are deemed not as meritorious as others...and the K-1 forum? PUT PROBLEMS IN THE MAIN FORUM! but slink off to some congrats siberia for good news cos it might hurt or upset people or it's cluttering or what have you.

You have used 'without merit' or a variation of that many times this week. Maybe someone replied to you about it or maybe not--that is not MY interpretation (nor have I read that intention from anyone else who advocates the Yippee forum) but by continuing to bang the drum, do you hope it's admitted as fact? Are you not taking the joy from the Yippee threads by creating a new truth about them?

One couple was forward enough to post how they felt about the Yippee threads; who knows how many they do (or do not) speak for? What IF not everyone sees it the way you do? Or the way I do? That's the conversation that was going on with Ewok, so I'll say it again, it's his site and he has got to lay down the way it is. Otherwise, this kerfuffle *will* just recyle, quarter after quarter, or however often it comes up.

So please don't read into what I say and turn it into something it's not....I'm hardly subtle as it is. The people here are great and whatnot, but forgive me for saying but the power trips are not.

And yet, you really just wanted to get one more dig in (and have your forgiveness in advance)? What power trips? I actually don't have a dog in this fight--I don't care what forums we have, or which decision is made about moving things. When I have something to add, I throw it in, but I'm not invested in the result.

Lisa, did it ever occur to you that a member designation is just that - a designation?

That in fact it might put the onus on people to be just a little more cautious, and a little less 'power-trippy' than you would have us all believe?
