That is about right, once you hear the officer says "I will recommend for approval", that pretty much seals the deal, but the disturbing thing is you can have sufficient amount of evidence and they can still tell you "we have to review your application before a decision can be made". Especially in my case, my 751 and 400 will be adjudicated at the same time, but if I have an officer that is difficult and who might love to be on a power trip, I might still walk out of the interview with a pending status. Who knows? I will find out at the interview as I believe we have submitted more than enough of evidence. We will see, one more month for me before the interview.

I had no idea that they could not make a decision that day. It was like being punched in the stomach. I was fairly nervous about the test, just because how important becoming a us citizen is to me, but after I passed the exam I thought it was a sure thing. Portland does same day ceremony's and every one that I know that has become us citizens in Portland has became one on the same day. So I was shocked, and defeated. And now 2 weeks later I just keep waiting for a decision to be made so I can move forward. I was also a disappointed that the IO did not expand on why I was picked or what I did wrong that made her single out my case.

I bet, I am so sorry to hear that, after waiting for so long and not being about to get a firm answer is just hard to absorb. Do you also have 751 pending? Or you had already received your 10 year green card?

I have lived in the USA with a 10 year green card for 9 years, and 1 year before that with a K3 visa. I have been married to an American for 17 years. I have only been out of the country for 5-7 days at a time and normally just to Canada and less then once a year. I am ready to become a US citizen.

Well l, the silver lining is at least you have been a permenant resident for so long, I think it is just a matter of time they approve your 400. I have 751 and 400 pending at the same time, they informed me they will adjudicate both at the same time, so it is not over yet, I am sure you will be fine, please keep us updated.

Exactly one month away before the interview. I will have additional evidence for bona marriage(ongoing evidence I have been collecting since after the filing of 400)handy during the interview with me just in case if the officer tells me he still needs some time to review my pending 751, if that is the case, I might volunteer to tell the officer politely if he needs it. Have an appointment with my lawyer prior to the interview, will find out strategically how to handle various hypothetical scenarios to maximize the possibility of on the spot approval. However, I am also fully and mentally prepared for the possibility of walking out of interview pending. We will see, just have to try my best.

N400 Citizenship and Removal of Condition (I751) joint Interview

I applied N400 August 22 2017 (while I751 was pending since Aug 2016). I had my case updated to 'n400 interview scheduled' on Jan 12, 2018. My interview was on Feb 13 2018. I was interviewed (adjudicated) for I751 first, then citizenship interview. Here is how it went:

Place: Portland Office

My appointment was at 10 am. I walked in with my US Citizen wife around 9.25 am. While waiting for the number for nearly 1 minute, the officer came and told me that it was great that I came in early as they are ready for interview! Good thing I brought my wife as they kind of required her to answer questions for I751 adjudication.

I751 adjudication- First thing truth oath, then we seated. The officer asked for passport which had the i551 stamp (since I never got my 10 yr green card and old one was taken in return for stamp). Next, officer asked if I had been outside USA since applying for N400. I said yes, and tried to give updated information sheet but the office said the passport is enough and they can look the entry stamp. Next 10 minutes were discussing what my wife and I been doing these couple years. Why no kids, where we live, when did we move, where we met. it was very relaxed and friendly conversation. Next officer took asked for my new lease which I presented in 5 secs. That's it, all the documentation needed! passport and lease! My wife answered few questions as well.

N400 interview- There were about 50 YES/NO questions which I replied NO. One question I had doubt which was "Were you ever cited", I said "By a police officer-NO" (Because I had traffic camera tickets which I paid and that is not a law officer). This question was asked again later and I confirmed with USCIS officer that citation DOES NOT include traffic camera tickets under $500 and no need to file them!

Next the test

Told to read " how many senators are there". Next to write " There are one hundred senators".

Q1: What happened on 9/11

Q2 Name of national anthem

Q3 What is the rule of law

Q4 Why 13 stripes on the flag

Q5 What ocean is on west side

Q6 I don't remember.. (because I was already happy and my memory didn't store it)

After interview, officer told me I passed . Then asked to look at if we have any pictures together. I printed 40 pictures and officer looked at ALL one by one, asking question of where and when which I wrote on the back side. Few laughs, few funny questions and the officer kept like 3 pictures while returning 37 to me. Officer then said it is all done and I should receive notification soon. No SAME DAY oath as I751 adjudication takes 24 hrs before system updates N400 approval. (Portland does same day oath though). Anyways, my status changed in 1 week to "in line for oath" and then changed to "oath scheduled" the next day. All good now! Oath in 3 weeks. No notification for I751, nor I received any green card. It's still showing pending on the website :blink:

To answer some confusing question on this forums and which bugged me as well-

Q Can you apply N400 while I751 is pending- YES

Q Can you travel while your I751/N400 is pending- YES, just get the i551 stamp

Q Do you need to declare traffic tickets under $500- NO, answer no to citation question as well if you were not arrested.

Congratulations @Kmnm!!

i would like to clarify one thing for everyone. Yes, you do not need to disclose traffic tickets under $500 when filing for N400, however, if you receive a traffic ticket after your interview and BEFORE your oath, you do need to disclose that information. The oath letter does have a checklist on the back of the page. Also, the recommendation is to clear out the ticket, if possible, before the oath ceremony.

You still need to disclose, pour lawyer added to our application and explained what you do not do is submit documentation but still disclose it, I had a traffic ticket like 10 years ago, no fine but we still included on the applciation with the explanation

"You do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines or incidents that did not involve an arrest or did not involve drugs or alcohol, if the only penalty was a fine of less than $500 or points on your driving record"

My apologies. Yes, you need to disclose the information but not submit documentation. If it happens after the interview then paper work is required regardless of the fine.
