If we change our address in, say, March will that change the field office we are processed at?

It works for general status but thats it. Still need to log in for PDFs etc.

And of course by 5th year anniversary I was referring to people who are filing under the 5 year residency rule. For marriage based petitions the relevant anniversary will be the 3rd year. Also the question for  3rd or 5th year anniversary wouldn't even arise for those who have been holding green card for decades. They will go straight to the interview appointment queue after bio-metric.

You can't schedule it automatically based on NOA date. There are too many variables that go into how long a case takes. One persons case could take 4 months to get an interview, another person with the same NOA date could take 10 months, for whatever reasons. 

 

Online is faster because its more efficient and so much of it is automated (not having to physically send files around is a huge time savings). I don't think USCIS is giving special treatment, it just is what it is.

I wouldn't switch my address just to speed up processing. We're selling our house in April-ish and staying with my parents for a few months before the overseas transition. Hopefully the address change doesn't badly affect our timeline in getting scheduled for the interview, if we haven't heard by then. I wish we could wait on the house sale for immigration to finish, but that's not very feasible. 

 

I know it's not always the case that an oath ceremony follows a month after the interview, but according to the timelines posted here it seems the majority of oath ceremonies are that way so I'm hoping ours will follow suit. 

05/14: We were married!!

06/04/14: Finally marriage license was recorded & we got a copy

06/05/14: AOS package mailed via Fed Ex overnight to USCIS Chicago Lockbox

06/06/14: (Day 00) Confirmation of delivery & receipt date recorded by USCIS

06/11/14: (Day 05) NOA 1 Hard copy of receipt received

06/13/14: (Day 07) Form I-797C received, Biometrics appointment scheduled for July 8

07/01/14: RFE for co-sponsor salary and tax info, which was already sent with original package. Resent a copy on 07/08/14.

07/08/14: (Day 32) Biometrics appt.

Online is faster because its more efficient and so much of it is automated (not having to physically send files around is a huge time savings). I don't think USCIS is giving special treatment, it just is what it is. 

Online filing is faster because USCIS is flawed, and that flaw has nothing to do with its being more efficient except fairness. Online filing was supposed to only make it more efficient for filers and USCIS  to file and receive applications electronically, it should have never meant to skip ahead of traditional paper filers. I have said this many times they should have stuck to this notion of applications being processed "in order in which they were received". They should encourage everyone to file on line just to be fair. I still have about 5 months to go, and you are already naturalized, you applied for your 400 around the same time I did, and I am way behind you. Is it a special treatment for on line filers? No, it is not MEANT to be, but the unfairness of it kind of makes it become an unintentional special treatment, and it is obviously not your fault or online filers' fault, but I just wish at least you would try to understand it is unfair and frustrating for many paper filers. You have gone through the process and got naturalized, your 400 interview was scheduled 60 percent faster than many normal paper filers who even filed early than you, but I agree, it is what it is, but that does not make it fair. Had I known, I would have applied on line as well.

You are absolutely correct, they do seem to have separate slots for online filing. The fact is the people who got super fast interview dates are predominantly on line filers even though it varies from office to office sometimes, but you do have better chances of getting super quick interview dates if you file on line. They should not have separate slots for processing, they should process applications in order which they were received whether it was mailed in or electronically submitted, I think most applicants would agree. The electronic filing should have been designed for the sole purpose of convience of sending and recieving applications for applicants and USCIS, and not almost expediting the process of getting an interview. It is interesting and strange that a minority of bloggers here will always insist it is totally fair and insist it is not "special treatment" when all you said was pointing out the obvious. Yes, I 100 percent agree with you, all applications should be processed in order based on the NOA date, and not how it was filed.

It's all just guessing, no one really knows how they process cases and USCIS certainly won't reveal anything information. Let's just say us online filers were lucky enough to find the online application portal, that's all. There is really nothing to argue about.
