Ok, thanks. That is what I thought, but I thought it was a trick for paper filers, oh well, no problem.

Nope. Online filers have an online account (ELIS) where they can see status (obviously), see PDF letters from USCIS, and see/modify uploaded documents. Also can send messages to USCIS that do get replies, though they seem to be always generic replies. 

 

Paper filers are only really able to track via EGOV with a case ID. You can "create an account" on that page too but it doesn't do much for you other than letting you turn on text and email updates. Online filers usually check both sites for status, though the ELIS site's updates are generally way better.

Fprints:  Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Yup, it is obvious. I am expecting to wait for 8 to 10 months for my interview anyway(Los Angeles), my expectations are very very low. We will see what happens how it plays out.

Mine were very low as well. Especially with how long it took for me to be "in line" compared to everyone else. But then I got the status that my interview letter was posted (though it hasn't been yet) so maybe it won't be so bad. Maybe you'll get in soon too. San Diego is probably one of the busiest field offices in the country, though I'm sure LA isn't far behind.

Yeah, i find it interesting when the online filers get "In line for interview", that still doesn't mean you will get the interview in 30 days, but the tricky part is if you get "Your interview was scheduled", does that really mean for sure you will get a letter soon? I guess like you said before, it really varies. Good luck,  I hope you will get your interview soon. As far as I am concerned, my freaking 751 is still pending and they may combine the two. I always tell myself my main focus is 400 and i will feel a bit better and less frustrated.   Yeah, Los Angeles field office is probably overwhelmed which is why my expectations are very low, it might even take more than a year, oh well, we will see.

That’s the thing though, online filers don’t ever actually get an “in line” notice. We get a “your interview has been scheduled” notice that is the equivalent and it can sit in that status for months. It’s not until we get the “read the letter we mailed you” status that we actually have an interview scheduled.

 

USCIS should really change the online filers status of “your interview has been scheduled” to say “background check is complete, we’re transferring your case to the field office” since that’s basically what it means. 

 

I was shocked that I got the “read the letter” status the next day.
