I was wondering about that too. My understanding is that you get in line for interview AFTER completion of background checks? If that's true, does this mean that in some cases, background checks are completed within minutes?

I honestly have no clue, but that sounds like a reasonable assumption. 

 

In my case, I get stopped at the US border fairly often because somebody with my name AND my birthday has a federal warrant... so that could very well be why mine is taking so long. You'd think the fact that I have Global Entry would mean I've already been vetted (since there were background checks and an interview for that, too) but who knows.

I think if you stay in the US for the most of the time 5 years or 3 years prior to naturalization, background check could be pretty fast with just running through national databases automatically. But there are always exceptions that require manual check.

I was shocked and started looking it up and ran into this thread. So, I have seen a running update for everyone where one status says "inline for interview", what does that mean? is this status I have right now means inline for interview?

Yes, that is the "in line for interview" status.

 

Keep in mind that there can often be a huge gap between the "your interview has been scheduled" message and you actually getting the interview notice online or in the mail. Sometimes months. (Also, sometimes hours or days.)

NOA: Receipt Notice Date Printed on your official I-797 notification.
Fprints:  Date assigned for fingerprinting (Bio-metrics). If you do your biometrics via walk-in prior to your scheduled appointment, please enter the date in bold blue.
In Line: Date you received e-notification about the start of your interview scheduling.
Int Ltr: Date you received the official letter in the mail regarding interview.
Interview: Date of your interview.
Oath: Date Oath taken.

Field Office: Your local USCIS office where you will have the N-400 interview.

Hi everyone, I went to get the biometrics done today, everything fine and quick as usual.

I have a question, I have a 13 year old daughter with permanent residence card, I know she can become US Citizen in automatic, once I get my citizenship. Does anyone know what process should I follow for that?

Only what they required based on my application. The application will tell you.

 

Definitely better to do it online. No reason not to, unless you're not eligible.

So I used the inbox in online filing system to ask why I haven't received a interview date yet but the online case status says "interview scheduled". I also asked if online filers have priority for scheduling interview. Here is the response I got:

Your application information has been entered into the system which schedules applicants for interviews at their local Field Office. Interview appointments are scheduled as slots become available at the Field Office. Once you have been scheduled for an appointment, you will receive an Interview Appointment Notice to appear at a certain date and time at your local Field Office. You must take the Interview Appointment Notice and photo ID to your appointment. Please review the Interview Appointment Notice for any other requirements.

Once you have been scheduled, you may view and print a copy of your Interview Appointment Notice within your USCIS online filing system account. After you log in to your USCIS online filing system account, access the Home Tab to find the "Recent Notices" field to view or print your official appointment notice from USCIS.

 

It pretty much confirms "interview scheduled" means "in line for interview" for online filers.

So I'm sure this doesn't mean much, but randomly my "Last Updated" date got updated to 9/18/17 in the online filing system. The latest date prior to that was 8/30, which is when my status changed to the "your interview was scheduled.." (i.e., the In Line notification).

 

So again, clueless if that means anything (and it probably doesn't mean much), but curious if other people had phantom date updates.
