Hi all, I know this is primarily a timeline thread, so I apologize for posting so much about interview requirements, but I spoke with USCIS today and thought the answer might be useful to others here. I asked about whether a state ID was required and if we had to go get one if my husband didn't have a driver's license or state ID. They said that a social security card would also work as government ID, so he does not need a state ID card as well. So if anyone else doesn't have one, your SS card is an acceptable alternative.  :)

05/14: We were married!!

06/04/14: Finally marriage license was recorded & we got a copy

06/05/14: AOS package mailed via Fed Ex overnight to USCIS Chicago Lockbox

07/01/14: RFE for co-sponsor salary and tax info, which was already sent with original package. Resent a copy on 07/08/14.

07/08/14: (Day 32) Biometrics appt.

08/10/14: (Day 65) Noticed that USCIS status has changed from Initial Review to Testing & Interview!

Very unsettling notification today! Has anyone heard of this? After the citizenship interview last week, the interviewer told my wife that she was going to recommend her for approval. But today my wife got the following notification:

"On May 23, 2018, we denied your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization"

I'm totally befuddled since we did everything right. This is depressing. They say the letter has been mailed with the reason for denial, and what to do.

September 25th: I-130 Emergency petition filed at US Embassy in Lima.

October 3rd: I-130 Petition Approved.

October 10th: Consular Section sent checklist and notification scheduling my spouse's visa interview for November 13th.

I am so sorry to hear your news, just a word of encouragement, it might actually be something minor, maybe she didn't do well in her civic test, and would need to retake it, because I have not heard anything where they deny N400 based on marriage.

No, it's definitely not the test. She aced the test no problem.

Even if it is something minor, we will still have to pay over $700 for the appeal form. Total BS

insipidtoast Oh man, I am sorry to hear that... Hope its something minor and you guys get back on track...

The only thing I can think of is that I'm a long haul truck driver, my job has me constantly traveling thousands of miles through different places in the USA, and they don't like the fact that my wife lives on the road in the truck with me. Our physical address that appears on our drivers licenses is that of a commercial mail receiving agency in South Dakota that provides a legitimate legal residence for people who constantly travel.

The interviewer asked me a lot of questions about my job and our address, but these would be stupid reasons to deny my wife the citizenship she's worked so hard for. If that's the reason, I'm not sure there's much we can do. We've been living together in the truck for a year now - spending every hour of every day together. I even showed the interviewer the passenger authorization forms my company fills out for insurance purposes, which shows our names, and that she's authorized to travel with me. Will probably have to wait until Monday or Tuesday for the letter, then have my mailbox service scan it to me.

I'll probably start a separate thread when we get the letter. Whatever it is they're being nitpicky about something, so I might have to hire an attorney. Not sure if an attorney would have any more power than ourselves in this situation though.

Was naturalized yesterday, 5/23. Finally, l thought I was going to lose my citizenship eligibility due to the passing of my husband after the 400 interview. It turned out they were aware of my husband's passing and they did approve my 400 a month ago, and the oath ceremony was obviously not a mistake. Please update, good luck. I wish my late husband were here celebrating with me, but I know he is smiling from above or in spirit. Good luck guys. August 2017 400 filer here.

Congratulation my friend, your journey of becoming a US citizen is over, and I am very sorry for your loss, I believe your husband wouldn’t want you to cry or be sad.

We've been living together in the truck for a year now - spending every hour of every day together. it doesn't sound that complicated, based on length of questions asked, the interviewer might be new or hearing something like a temporary address for the first time.  I would advise you to get a lawyer, since everything here in the country is hiring a lawyer.

Thank you so much. Yes, my immigration journey is finally over and thank you for your condolences. My husband is probably smiling either from heaven or next to me. We did it, my husband and I accomplished this together. It is ok for me to be sad. I was so moved yesterday at the oath because I also wish my husband were there crying with me and hugging me after I got my citizenship certificate, but I knew he was there, his spirit was. Thanks a lot for your support.

So sorry to hear that. What do you think what may have caused the denial? Did you file it too early? Do you have a lawyer?

The interviewer was from another office and was substituting for someone maybe they lost some important papers in the shuffle. I'm pretty angry today because I can't think of any good reason why.
